Ear defenders

Hi all, im after a bit of advice hear please. Ive used Auritech ear plugs when using 12 bore shotguns for a few years and im very pleased with the performance. Now i think ill be spending a bit more time on the range with a .243 and possibly a other cals ( .25-06, .30b ) are these going to be up to the job or should i be looking fo something else ?

That why I put the name in italics ,I'm guessing they are an overun.
Chinese factory's producing for western companies tend to sell through eBay or aliexpress.com.
But they work and I'm happy with them

Ah right, yeah that makes sense . But if they do what they're supposed to do i dont realy see a problem in using them..

Tried them myself but I found that the headband was far too tight. Then they died ! I donated them to someone on the site for parts. Got a pair of Isotunes now. Bluetooth which is handy.

I was on the fence about buying something expensive like Sordins etc until I tried some IsoTunes Sport active ear defenders. Considering they are 1/2-1/3rd of the price of the big names they seem to be every bit as good as I need. I've only had them about 6 months now but they've done everything asked of them. if they die after a year I might reconsider but until then...

If you want to just deaden the noise, the cheap yellow roll and stuff in plugs work well enough. And it's not the end of the world if you lose them because they're throw aways.

However, if you want to hear stuff (but not the big bangs) that's different. I also had some Howard Leights (real ones) for a good few years although they eventually fell to bits. I too took a gamble with the Ebay Special Howard Leight lookalikes. Three years down the line, they still work. So I guess I've had my money's worth.

One of my better buys, like the ex army Ebay Alt-Berg boots. Excellent!

I would no more buy a 'cheap' set of ear-defenders, than I would a cheap ballistic vest.

Dramatic; but you do take my point?

The thing about your hearing, is that once damaged (and it can be damaged by a single event) it stays damaged.
It never improves and it never gets 'better'.

WIth Christmas upcoming, then get the family/friends/yourself to treat to you to a 'proper' pair of defenders.

There are plenty on the market. I picked up a couple of these sets (one for family) at a Game Fair.

Fit is everything! I’ve had a pair of very expensive ones (MSA Sordin) but they were a terrible fit for me so got rid of them. I also found that when shooting I preferred to block out annoying noise & distracting chatter so reverted to passive ear defenders.

Having had the Howard leights and moved to Peltor sportac gels, for anything loud, beg borrow steal go without food to get the 150 extra, they are beyond night and day better..

If you decide to go down the route of Peltors, don't get the SportTac. It only reduced by 26 db. The ProTac Shooter (not the Hunter version) is what you want. It's usually considerably cheaper than the SportTac and it reduces noise by 32 db.

Tried my mates peltors, too bulky to shoot shotgun for me, bought some iso tunes, work really well for me, I'd try them all first if you can, rifle pretty irrelevant, but shotgun owners all have different stocks, mounting styles etc.

MSA Sordin... why
a) they are good and do the job
b) do not say they are waterproof but survive my wildfowling and standing in heavy rain
c) 5 year warrantee (and they do sort them when needed)
d) after warrantee they have a fixed price repair (about 25% of RRP cost)

MSA Sordin with the gel pads, not cheap but as someone has already stated, your hearing only deteriorates.
