In the market for some food ear protection. Mainly for hide and clay pigeon shooting. Will maybe look to join a shooting range at some point and will be shooting .357 or .45-70 hopefully. Anu recommendations will be much appreciated 👍

Food hearing protection... could try half a coconut for outers and maybe some raspberries for inners 😅

I've not had an issue with running thin peltors for clays and for my rifle shooting I plug with standard 3m ear plugs and wear Peltor Sport Tacs over the top with a set of gel pads off of amazon.

Messy eater obviously!
Just bought some Peltor Protec off a nice SD chap - very snug fit and great sound dampening.

PS
They come in a case which would double nicely as your lunch box….

You will probably need 2 sets.
A good set of over ear protection for the range and in ear protection for stalking or rough shooting.
I wear both sets together for full bore range work and clays.

Second that. Standing next to someone firing off slugs under a roof is not pleasant with just 1 set of earpro.

Main 3 considerations

In Ear
Over ear
And passive or electronic noise cancelling

Electronic noise cancelling are the way to go if you have the money. Personally I have always used over ear Sordin only thing I have changes was to upgrade the cups to gel version. When people talk money I understand that but you also need to put a price on your hearing not just now but in to the future

As others have said 2 sets are a good idea.
I use a set of custom moulded in ear and a set of over ear 3M SportTac which are great if you want to have a chat with someone.

I bought one of the cheaper electronic ear defenders for approx £60 and they work very well. At the indoor range I use I pair them (as other people recommend) with some quality passive ear plugs which are still very cheap for 100 pairs. I shoot an un-moderated 30-06 and it mutes the indoor noise very well.

In ear for stalking, I got some CENS and find them quite irritating when they are in the active mode as they amplify every small sound - such as the rustling of kit - like one's hat. Is this just a "put up with it or go deaf" problem or are there other solutions. I'm currently using one in my tinnitus affected ear but just in passive mode.

I use peltor protacs. They are the big fat electronic ones that give maximum hearing protection. Up to 32db whilst the thin ones are 26/27db? Can’t remember.
Anyhow, I wear these on clays, stalking, range and if she is feeling kinky….. in the bed.

I can’t be doing with 2 sets because it is more money, more kit and something else to forget. And I only have one set of ears, speak to anyone with tinnitus. So maybe I am over compensating. ( not in the bedroom though  )
When stalking they are often above my ears until I a getting ready for the shot as after time they can get sweaty, but you will have that with any ear defender. I am not keen on in ear as I find over time they can get uncomfortable unless you use squidgy foam ones and then you can’t hear anyone or anything.

For the range I have a pair of Walker's Razors:

Not sure where to get them in the UK or Europe. Must admit I had a friend bring them in from the US for me.

Really very happy with them. I have chronic tinnitus and these do a very good job of also overcoming that somehow with the active mode turned on. I wear them to mow the lawn, cut timber, hammer nails, I'd just about wear them all the time if I could (less tinnitus. Yay!). Not sure if they'll be on point for the AC/DC concert in June though.

Have a read of this. Save going over old ground. Pay attention to the bits about noise levels.

A Big Mac fits in perfectly in many cases.
