Do you mean they can't carry and BA attempting a monopoly?Hi All
I am trying to book flights to hunt Wildboar in Croatia in November , only to be told by KLM / Air France / Lufthansa that there embargo at Heathrow and many UK airports from flying with firearms ? Has anyone else heard similar .

I my experience, Newcastle are absolutely fantastic with firearms. Really helpful and knowledgeable. They staff told me that they deal with firearms most days. So much better than Manchester, which is the only other airport I have used.We have a few on our trip with the same problem . I am flying KLM out of Newcastle in November and they are taking firearms . Just waiting for my approval for a firearm as we speak .
I did think Heathrow was taking firearms for some of our group as well ?corvid 8x57 has a post on the wild boar pages about it that might help ?
There’s no outright ban, but quite a few airlines have decided that they will not carry firearms from some or all British airports because of the hassle and delays caused by your firearms legislation.Anyone know why this embargo has occurred?
I have just had to change my booking from manchester to Newcastle as Manchester are one of the airports that do not handle firearms for KlmApparently KLM are outsourcing flights from smaller airports to a subsidiary airline who do not carry firearms.
I agree Newcastle are great in their approach, I struggle to understand why Heathrow implement the same legislation in the manner that they do. Even Manchester recently voted the worst airport in UK do a decent firearms service.
You can probably cross Bristol off the list as KLM have started outsourcing their flights,Although we still have Easy Jet.I have just had to change my booking from manchester to Newcastle as Manchester are one of the airports that do not handle firearms for Klm
Klm have told me the airports they use that deal with firearms are:/
Newcastle
Bristol
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Aberdeen
I know there are others still handling firearms, I am told Heathrow have approved some for Croatian airlines in November but it definitely seems difficult this year
I took 10 firearms with me last year when I moved to the states. I went through Heathrow and it was dead easy and no issues at all. Also it depends on the airline company as wel
Remember that when it all goes tits up, it’s the airline thats left to clear up the mess and pay for the delay.Hi All
Thank you for your replies . I have flown out of Heathrow the last 4 Croatia Wildboar trips , and every time on the outward journey getting the firearms checked in by a 3rd party handling company has been a disaster , To be honest I can understand Airways are refusing to fly firearms its always last minute boarding and the one occasion one of the party's ammunition fell of the loading platform delaying the aircraft for 90 minutes , you would think with the amount of years people have been flying with firearms the operation would be slicker ?

Hi dunwaterRemember that when it all goes tits up, it’s the airline thats left to clear up the mess and pay for the delay.
If the flight is missed you have the passenger plus the rifle airside, they’ll have to accommodated on another flight which probably means having to be escorted back to the check in area, with the firearm and then doing it all again for the next flight.
I once asked an airline rep why it took so long and why his staff didn’t know how to handle firearms, he told me that there are so few checked in that its just not worth his while, he also said that he would be much happier if no firearms were carried at all.
Sad, but thats the way it is.
