We have a few on our trip with the same problem . I am flying KLM out of Newcastle in November and they are taking firearms . Just waiting for my approval for a firearm as we speak .
I did think Heathrow was taking firearms for some of our group as well ?corvid 8x57 has a post on the wild boar pages about it that might help ?

Do you mean they can't carry and BA attempting a monopoly?

I my experience, Newcastle are absolutely fantastic with firearms. Really helpful and knowledgeable. They staff told me that they deal with firearms most days. So much better than Manchester, which is the only other airport I have used.

I flew KLM from Manchester to Johannesburg because KLM Heathrow wouldn’t take guns.
I came back to Heathrow on Virgin with no problem.

I believe it is because certain baggage handling companies do not have the necessary procedures in place to handle firearms and it is the airport that awards the contract to the baggage handling companies so the airline may be happy to carry the firearms but the baggage handlers cant load or unload them

I'm flying to the US on Tuesday with United and they're fine. Rest of the GBPRA team have flown with BA and we're fine.

It'll be airline specific.

Anyone know why this embargo has occurred?
There’s no outright ban, but quite a few airlines have decided that they will not carry firearms from some or all British airports because of the hassle and delays caused by your firearms legislation.
Aircraft have been delayed and passengers and baggage have had to be offloaded when checked in firearms and passengers didn’t make it in time to the loading trolley due to delays between check in and customs. Heathrow received an honourable mention from a few carriers.
All of this costs time and money, the easy solution is not to get involved and refuse to carry firearms to/from or within the UK, which is what’s happening .
It’s got nothing to do with Brexit 😉, this is purely a homegrown creation .

I took 10 firearms with me last year when I moved to the states. I went through Heathrow and it was dead easy and no issues at all. Also it depends on the airline company as well.

Apparently KLM are outsourcing flights from smaller airports to a subsidiary airline who do not carry firearms.
I agree Newcastle are great in their approach, I struggle to understand why Heathrow implement the same legislation in the manner that they do. Even Manchester recently voted the worst airport in UK do a decent firearms service.

I have just had to change my booking from manchester to Newcastle as Manchester are one of the airports that do not handle firearms for Klm
Klm have told me the airports they use that deal with firearms are:/
Newcastle
Bristol
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Aberdeen
I know there are others still handling firearms, I am told Heathrow have approved some for Croatian airlines in November but it definitely seems difficult this year

You can probably cross Bristol off the list as KLM have started outsourcing their flights,Although we still have Easy Jet.

Hi All

Thank you for your replies . I have flown out of Heathrow the last 4 Croatia Wildboar trips , and every time on the outward journey getting the firearms checked in by a 3rd party handling company has been a disaster , To be honest I can understand Airways are refusing to fly firearms its always last minute boarding and the one occasion one of the party's ammunition fell of the loading platform delaying the aircraft for 90 minutes , you would think with the amount of years people have been flying with firearms the operation would be slicker ?

I was the first person through Heathrow when they changed the firearms procedure a few years back. As far as i could see it was arse about face and bound to cause delays. Not surprised they have decided it was more hassle than it was worth, I certainly did that day and have never gone through Heathrow with a gun again. Never will.

Remember that when it all goes tits up, it’s the airline thats left to clear up the mess and pay for the delay.
If the flight is missed you have the passenger plus the rifle airside, they’ll have to accommodated on another flight which probably means having to be escorted back to the check in area, with the firearm and then doing it all again for the next flight.
I once asked an airline rep why it took so long and why his staff didn’t know how to handle firearms, he told me that there are so few checked in that its just not worth his while, he also said that he would be much happier if no firearms were carried at all.
Sad, but thats the way it is.

Hi dunwater
Here's a question Do you think its the same situation at European airports or American airports . They must have similar problems ?

It could be so easy if they only took note of what we say to them to improve. Flying with EasyJet has got a lot easier over the years,Also when dealing with border force lately along with the rest of our parties we are taking photo copies of our licenses etc which has been very well received by them and seems to help the process along.
