Excellent Locksmith for Brattonsound Gun Cabinet Failure

Just thought I would share a recommendation for a terrific locksmith who came out today at almost no notice to fix a major problem with one of my gun cabinets. The cabinet in question is a Brattonsound Sentinel Plus RL7+. The key was jammed in the lock with the cabinet locked shut. The double-bitted brass key would not turn in either direction and could not be removed.

I 'phoned my local locksmith and they recommended a specialist in safes with experience of Brattonsound Cabinets. I got in touch with him (a chap called Will) and he happened to be driving in the area having just completed a job nearby. He gave me a quote , I agreed it and he was with me in less than 30 mins - in fact he was waiting for me when I got back home from work. He wanted to save the lock and cabinet and carefully managed to extricate the key (not straightforward). It transpired however that the lock mechanism was completely shot, so he worked hard to get through that to open the cabinet. It took a while and I would say that it was a good demonstration of the cabinet security level.

Will was pragmatic and offered a solution to fix the cabinet, replace the lock and repair the outer casing. In the end we both agreed that a new cabinet would probably be more economic and easier. So whilst I am not that happy with the Brattonsound product, I did want to post a recommendation on here for a job well done by a trained and skilled locksmith. He clearly knew what he was doing, there was no bullsh*t, he arrived promptly, was friendly and did the job. He stuck to his quote and offered a few tips about cabinet locks etc. He runs his own small business - the website is appropriately enough www.safebusters.co.uk and he is based in Hertfordshire, but seems to travel all over.

The above is based solely upon my experience this morning, but in a world where good service can be hard to come by, I thought I would share his details with everyone here as I suspect others amongst us may need the same service sometime or other.

I had a Brattonsound get stuck. Key wouldn’t turn, and I couldn’t withdraw it.

Phoned them. They guy said ‘empty a few tablespoons of WD40 into the mechanism, wait an hour. Jam a flat head screwdriver under the corner of the door furthest from the hinges, stand on the handle and jiggle the key.

Boom. Opened immediately.

Clearly these things are prone to various forms of failure…
