Hi All
I thought I would start a list on the excuses people use for missing or badly shooting a deer . Here are some I have listened to.
Deer moved just as I pulled the trigger
Must have hit a branch
Chill
Wind picked up.
Bipod must have bounced on the hard/uneven/unstable surface.
Misjudged the point of aim what with the thick winter coat.
Deer was much bigger/smaller than I thought so I misjudged the range.
Shooting across dead ground so I misjudged the range.
Harsh flat light made it look bigger so I misjudged the range.
Dull soft light/mist/getting dark made it look smaller so I misjudged the range.
I’m used to shooting roe so sika just look that much closer.
I’m used to shooting sika so roe just look that much further away.
I’m used to a reticule with mil dots so MOA marks confuse me.
I’m used to a reticule with MOA marks so mil dots confuse me.
I’m used to a plain reticule so busy reticules confuse me.
I tried to ping it with the rangefinder and must have got a duff reading because the ground was too flat/too wet/too grassy/too covered in scrub.
I pinged one with the rangefinder but must have shot the one in front/behind it.
I’m used to shooting with a single stage trigger.
I’m used to shooting with a two stage trigger.
I mainly shoot shotguns, so really just point rather than aim.
I usually shoot off a bipod/high seat/sticks/car bonnet/free hand so x confuses me.
I usually shoot foxes so I’m used to just aiming centre of mass.
I usually shoot munties, so you really can’t wait til they stop moving.
I’ve been using 95gr vmax, and really don’t think about drop.
I’ve been using 180gr soft points, and you really have to aim off even at short range.
I’m used to shooting with/without a moderator, so shooting without/with one confuses me.
When I did DSC1 that’s where they said to aim.
I changed scopes last night and it’s always been cock on before.
I could go on…
