Expiring certificate

BHC don't issue sec 7 in this instance anymore, you get the 8 week extension and then asked to put the guns into storage. Fieldsports legal advice was to also to store the guns after the 8 week extension
I'm in Herts going through my renewal (certs expired Aug 25) i have had 2 s.7 permits, the current one expires in October...if you have had the 8 week extension the H.O. Guidance says a s.7 should be issued...ch 6.17 for reference.

Mate is in Bedfordshire, had the 8 week extension and was refused a sec 7. Guns been in storage since beginning of December

When you say expires, is that based on the date on your cert or including the 4 month extension?

If you applied to renew in time, you should get an automatic 4 month extension on the expiry on your ticket. That said, I’d still want the FLD to confirm they consider you have the extension.

To answer your question, rifles, shotguns, mods and any other pressure bearing part should be given to an RFD, plus rifle ammo. Shotgun ammo doesn’t require a license to possess, only to acquire, so you can keep that. I don’t rightly know whether you can possess primers and powder without a valid ticket or, whether like shotgun ammo, you only need it to acquire.
Where do you get 4 month extension from???
If your paperwork is handed in at least 8 weeks prior to your expiry date, then you should automatically receive a letter extending your FAC for 8 weeks, not 4 months.

Everyone I know who has had a delay in their renewal, has received the new certificate with follow on dates from their old ones. Not the date the new one was actually issued on. That's Northumbria and Durham areas.

Just as an aside, a friend applied for a new grant of FAC in July 2025. He emailed recently for an update and was told they are currently processing applications received in September 2024. That's in Durham.

Suggest a factually worded email to the PCC as there appears no direct email to the department. If the applicant has sent all the paperwork/electronic application in good time (the automatic extension by the force usually states they are delayed even though it was received within the time limit) then the applicant cannot reasonably be expected to foot the bill of storage charges. Personally I would ask the PCC if they are aware and who to name on a small claims compensation claim to recoup the storage charges. I believe Sec7 cannot be revoked once issued hence the reticence at issuing them.

I thought they legally couldn't back date it to the end of the old one if they did an extension. It has to run from when the new one is issued

I got lucky at my renewal as my mate had issues and had to put his guns into storage, he had the mobile number of the feo from our leics force. I'd been ringing every day for 2 weeks as well as emails asking for advice about my medical forms etc. no answer. Once I'd got his mobile number all was sorted very quickly with good advice.
Just a shame the firearms depts are so under staffed, and often staffed by well meaning people but there's just not enough of them.
You wonder where all this extra money is going to.
A call to the police chief explaining the poor service and enquiring where and whom to send the invoice for the storage fees, might just get things moving along.

I anybody tries to arrest you ask them who they are going to arrest from the Police force as they are an accessory to any crime that has been committed

Second 7 can be revoked according to fieldsports advice. Basc said it couldn't
