FAC Fees Announced

So we pay full cost, but apparently not so if you visit a football match.

whilst I empathise with the sentiment, the two things are not comparable. Think of the revenue and trickle down effect of all the football supports spending money to travel to get there, merchandise, ticket receipts, booze, food and drink in the area. I would imagine it’s a huge benefit to the local area and the wider economy, all of which generates taxes which pays towards the costs.

however looks like Sir Mark, does not see any of the trickle down money and same could be said for shooting, we buy guns, ammo etc what is it BASC says shooting is worth to the economy £3.3 billion.

I’m not a football fan having never watched nor played the game.

However, comparing football and shooting is unrealistic.

Deloittes say:

“In the 2023/24 season, Premier League clubs generated £6.3 billion in revenue”

And that’s just the Premier League clubs revenue. That doesn’t account for all the additional spend on other leagues, travel, hotels, food and drink etc. etc.

Whereas BASC’s claims are for the total economic benefit to the whole UK economy.

Further, we can all agree we shooters are very much in the minority, whereas football is the definition of populist sport.

Again, I’m a lifelong shooter and loathe football. But we need to be realistic in the battles we choose to fight.

Was not suggesting it is our fight but that of Sir Mark, but as a tax payer I do agree with him.
