Me tooIndeed, that probably made up 70% of the attendees at the last two years' - but there was plenty of self funding part time stalkers there/going who had/have to take a day's holiday off work (like me!)

Are they really paying 2 people to talk about Wolves?
There are still some tickets left for this event, there will be some interesting talks through out the day.I see tickets are now available on eventbrite via this link:
Managing Deer Across The English Landscape
England’s largest one day deer conferencewww.eventbrite.com
Because we are in a recession or have you been on a different planet. No matter how you look at this it is expensive. The speakers must be charging way to much for there services.Don’t know why folk are questioning the price
There are some very knowledgable speakers delivering the lectures over a seven hour period
Having worked with a few of them I can’t recommend them highly enough
For the cost of a mornings roe stalking or a tank of fuel
Dig deep boys f f s
Or the venue costs, overheads, etc. Indeed, are the fare paying attendees subsidising the FC attendance I wonder As per my comments at #12 and #21 I'd love to attend but it do deer (sic) for meBecause we are in a recession or have you been on a different planet. No matter how you look at this it is expensive. The speakers must be charging way to much for there services.

I went to the last one it was great.Don’t know why folk are questioning the price

I would still want to attend with being a contractor in North walesI don’t think any one would expect someone without means to attend a paying event
And yet stalker’s will pay more than that for one Swarovski scope cap or 1.5 boxes or bullets.Because we are in a recession or have you been on a different planet. No matter how you look at this it is expensive. The speakers must be charging way to much for there services.
As I understand it they don't pay any speakers, just here travel expenses, hotel & meals. Not cheap in Hampshire. Are they really paying 2 people to talk about Wolves?
Ask the ranchers in Montana, I was told to SSS when I went over by the ranchers, but I did it the legal way, heard them at night but didn't see one
Indeed it's a shame the FC could not get it added to the FC Grant funding for training for Continued Learning or for pros CPD a la DSC1 & 2 and the BDS DM course but I think they did tryI would still want to attend with being a contractor in North wales
Yrs ago the FC used to do a subsidy on courses etc if the person worked in the forestry sector.
Thanks for the info.As an aside, all of the German, Croatians, Scandis etc I meet say the wolf protection there is far too high, they need to be managed as numbers are increasing and they are having a large effect on the deer etc numbers
Surely no cost for the FC (govt employee). Officers, it's part of their job, what would they be doing if not this.I'm sure they will this year.
As for others comments on fees: I don't work for the FC, I haven't for 29 years, however I have organised a number of similar events in Deer Management and other sectors and if you take into account:
1. The time spent organising it (FC Deer Officers)
2. The venue hire inc refreshments, serving the lunch, washing up..)
3. The speaker (see below list) costs (hotel, dinner, mileage, fees..)
Then I'd imagine the entry cost will not even cover their costs, they need sponsorship to get them near it
- Interpreting Thermal Drone Data - Ben Harrower (BH Wildlife)
- TB & Deer - Peter Green MRCVS (Veterinary Surgeon)
- Managing Deer on the RSPB Estate - David Morris
- Deer in England, the last 1000 years? – Professor Naomi Sykes
- iDeer Project Dr Becks Spake (University of Reading)
- Deer diet project, Dr Lucie Jerabkova and James Upson (FE)
- Wolves: Can They Help Control Deer Numbers? – Robin Rigg & Richard Morley
- Deer Licensing- Dr Rodney Calvert, Natural England
- Advances in deer management policy, practice and technology in Scotland– Doug Knox FLS
My Danish friend tells me that they also have an effect on farm livestock, never mind the deer.As an aside, all of the German, Croatians, Scandis etc I meet say the wolf protection there is far too high, they need to be managed as numbers are increasing and they are having a large effect on the deer etc numbers
David.
Don’t quarrel about this but your events were half the size of the forthcoming FE event and based in Scotland with less overheads than the event in question
We’ve already established that the refreshments account for a fifth of the cost factor in room hire and other overheads it is still cheap value for money given there is eight hours of lectures
Look at other courses advertised on this forum 100-150 per day
Given the quality of input and content this event is reasonably priced
