FC Event, Managing Deer Across The English Landscape, Hampshire, Tues 1st Oct '24

Hants are an example to other forces, at my main home here we have a force where we have to wait for a vet (25 mins average) or an police Armed Response Unit (1.15 hours average) I'm told
Vets cost money! I wonder who pays?
Armed response also cost a lot of money when it comes to police resources and don't have as many tools in the box to deal with all cases safely and humanely, there's also a welfare issue if the waiting times is 1.15 plus when there could be a trained volunteer near by to help.

looking forward to meeting you and many others on Tuesday.

Will be good to catch up on Tuesday - looking forward to seeing you there :thumb:

More to add later, but just to offer quick heartfelt congratulations to @Alastair Boston, the presenters, and all the team helping to organise what has been a hugely enjoyable, informative and educational day.

A really interesting program of fascinating talks, organised meticulously, and held at a superb venue with delicious food.

Hard to think how it could be surpassed next year.

Just to echo what Dom is saying in the previous post.

Well done to all the speakers and a particular that's to @Alastair Boston for organising and running the show, it was run very well and needed to be to fit all the speakers in.

Most of the people within the deer world where in attendance so it was good to catch up with some of them.
Mrs G just made the mistake of asking me “how was your deer day?”

Needless to say, she’s now glassy-eyed and stupified after hearing all about deer drone surveys, the archaeological history of deer, wolves, deer control on RSPB land, deer stomach content sampling, deer damage, etc.

I too have bored the tits off my wife talking about the archaeological evidence for 'The unmaking', sites with left scapulas only, other sites with right scapulas only etc. and she's a history teacher. She walked away hollow-eyed before I could get onto eDNA sampling of deer stomach contents, or Bitterns at RSPB Leighton Moss. Her loss....

My first time at this event and certainly not my last. A brilliant day.

@Alastair Boston If you have an online way to donate to the Liphook foodbank, I will put something in. Like many, I didn't have any cash to put in the collection bucket.

I hope you didn't walk around the kitchen waving the pizzle and balls on a stick?? When Naomi Sykes was talking about that I was tempted to shout out "Aye, he'll nae be needin' those nae more"!

@Alastair Boston - I meant to ask yesterday, will the slides that were presented be made available to attendees? I know you said that the session was being recorded, but some of the detail on the slides would also be useful to be able to read.
