First boar for the season

The hunting gods have not been shining on me the past 4 months. I hunt with a group in central France where we have a 3 day driven hunt each month from Oct-Feb. So far others had been getting sport but I have Missed one and blanked on all other days. Lots shot but not by me.
Last weekend started cold and crisp in the Forest. I could hear dogs baying and the beaters shouting but only mature Roe deer were passing me and they were not on the ticket. Shots right and left but nothing the first day. Second day was -10oC, walked through the forest and was given a post high above a quite open bowl. Finally I could see more than 10 m in front and was a lovely view. Action started with two roe deer making an escape. Then I saw a big boar coming up from the bottom way off to my left, directly towards the next person in line. He did not see the boar but it sensed hm and veered towards me, still coming up the slope. As it passed between trees it paused for a second and I got the shot off. Was about 40 meters away and just the front half visible. So happy to see it drop on the spot and not move. shot in the head with a 9.2x62 does tend to slow one down !. Had to wait an hour until the end of the drive to go and check - nice boar of about 80 kg. Seemed a lot bigger as I had to drag it up to the track !
I thought I had the biggest boar of the day but someone got a monster of 127kg after gutting.

Great report, very jealous of the opportunity to shoot them. Government here cull them asap to protect the pork industry(any that ever are here are escapees from farms). I need to take a trip to continental Europe at some point!

Life's too short. Do it.

Great report, I’m loving my 9.3 x 62 barrel on my Blaser R8, I used it for most of the deer season and it was very effective. I thought real hard about taking it to Africa in May but the .375 H & H barrel will hopefully see some buffalo culling. I can really understand the use of 9.3 for driven boar, I’m desperate to get a European trip in within the next 12 months. Even though you were not in a lot of action, you at least made good on the opportunities that came your way. Well done and thanks for sharing.

Lovely white tail in your pic. I used to enjoy hunting them when I lived in Indiana
