First foray on Fallow.

A reasonably nice afternoon yesterday so my younger pal and myself.decided to have a look round. We have only about 300 acres of oats yet to get and 100 acres of beans so plenty of stubbles about.
Firstly we decided to get another high seat put up in a small spinney covering ground used a lot by Fallow. Trust my pal to park over a badger latrine on my side of the truck. Eventually I managed to get out without covering my boots in badger s... and half an hour later seat up and bushes trimmed for a shooting arc. We moved a mile down the road to see seven Fallow laid out on a stubble and could make out three does and three fawns but couldn't identify the last animal. Off went my pal, stalked in, stalked out it was a yearling doe. Another move to the other end of the estate and whilst we were examining a new way in over recently acquired land my pal said "Have a look behind you". Twenty to thirty bucks had just come out of a wood we had passed five minutes before. Very carefully we made a wide detour and managed to get within 400yds but the deer were skylined. There were some big boys among them and a.lot of sorrels, sores and prickets and they were slowly feeding towards us. At 250 yds they started to move sideways so it was now or never. There was a black pricket but couldn't get onto him so shoulder shot on a common which ran 30 or so yds and collapsed whilst the rest took off for the next county. Just let my little monster work up to him and kill him again, then it was off to the gralloch tree.
Whilst doing the gralloch we spotted a little Roe buck a few hundred yds away so decided to try calling him. He came in quickly to about 200yds and stopped, he obviously on inspection didn't really fancy this young lady. I watched him through my scope for a.minute or two but then decided to leave him till next year. Deer to chiller at butchers and home at 8.30 for a cup of tea and a glass or two of that Highland or Island stuff before bed.
