First Welsh Gold Roe

Carl Jennings may be from Gwent but was the roe from Wales, and if so where was it taken from?

Where in Gwent ? I take it you actually mean Monmouthshire and probably somewhere in the lower Wye valley.

I was led to believe that it was taken in Wales, hardly suprising last time I was in Monmouthshire the place seemend to have a fairly high population of Roe.

And yes that young lady had a very nice pair of trophies :-D

Leon

I wouldn't say fairly high population of roe in Monmouthshire Leon in fact I would say that there is only a fairly small population if any, it's mainly fallow that's why I am so curious.

He also mentions an abomination of an administrative district that was called Gwent. :stir:

There's some but not a lot around Monmouth plus there was a dead boar on the side of the road in Usk about 3weeks ago.

Interesting as GWENT founded in 1974 was abolished on 1st April 1996 with a return to Monmouthshire, BlAenau GWENT, & Caerphilly, City of Newport, & torfaen. Monmouthshire is the Eastern 60% of old GWENT, and the most likely place for there to be any deer.

I know we have them in Powys, mostly in the forestry in the border areas, the hounds flush them from these areas.

Nice looking buck Paul and shot in Wales (Powys), would it happen to be around Radnorshire by any chance?

I have heard of the odd roe being taken in the lower Wye valley in Monmouthshire having gradually spread from the Forest of Dean (Glos) but from what I have heard the spread hasn't been widespread or in any great numbers. I was at a meeting a month or so ago where the FC was represented and I'm sure that it was mentioned that numbers aren't great as yet and the same as regards boar.
