Fox call

Hi

I’m wondering what anybody’s finding the most effective of fox calls this time of year, I’m using an ICOtec caller but not having any joy for some reason. It’s been very effective for a couple of year now but I’m finding it quite strange this season. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Foxes round here are pairing up so very difficult to get a response when lurve is in the air.
Saying that this lady obviously decided she wanted a night off only a few nights ago - charged in to a hand squeak…

I’ve had one fly across to vixen in heat tonight but it disappeared, I’ve found foxing strange this season but deer has been a whole different ball game it’s been a good season up to yet on them

same down here had foxes coming into vixen in heat but didn't want to commit fully and sat in the undergrowth sussing out what's going on
had better results with rabbit calls
and even better with a mouth call for some reason
10 foxes down last month in four evenings so doing well on them

Don’t forget that when using a vixen mating call n a fox hangs up but won’t commit that they are expecting to see something out in the field I’ve used a rolled up bit of camo or even a big ball n or cushion.

The vixen mating call goes by a variety of names sometimes called vixen domination , or just mating call
Some calls are on the FoxPro website but will only play on the FoxPro caller. Others are on various websites in mp3 or wav
Night vision forum site for one.
With regards to which one to use just download 2/3 n play them at home n choose one that sounds nice n clear n try it out
It also depends on playing it at the right time of year
Hope this is helpful

I also use rat dist, snowshoe rabbit, hand squeak jack rabbit dist. mouse dist. Gray squirrel dist.
And a variety of others in a similar vein.
Sometimes I may have to use 3/4 different calls before I get a response .
What works one stand doesn’t necessarily work on the next stand or the next night. You just have to play around
Only not to often or they wise up to it . Also what works in one part of the country might not work else where ie on my sons
Estate both up north n down south the fox took no notice of the rabbit dist. Even though we tried it over a few seasons
We never had any response but the hare dist was a different kettle of fish

Cub call is working great at the minute.
There is no rule book , just try different calls , sometimes they scream in and other times just ignore it.
I've had Cub call and mating calls work all year round so just experiment.
If nothing has shown after about half an hour I just move to another stand and try again.

Totally unpredictable! I watched a pair for nearly two weeks only recently in utter frustration prowling about on a nearby farm which doesn't allow shooting - period. They were regularly hunting in two fields above the field which will soon be home to day-old lambs so they really had to go. Tried everything in my armoury and not so much as a sideways look so I figured they had had a run-in with someone else’s efforts.
Then one night one came in like a steam train to the handsqueak and two nights later the dog did the same - both with close range and very fatal consequences. The moral is just keep trying - sooner or later hunger/curiosity will be their downfall….

Exactly, just keep trying , they always slip up in the end. 👍
