Hi S-L-A
Electronic fox calls don't work all the time, but when they do work you can often have a result within 5 minutes, and that can be a fox thats on someone else's land that you cannot see or have permission to shoot there, IMO without out a electronic caller it can be quite time consuming just waiting for the fox to turn up a baiting point or on speck.
Ive had a spitfire and wildfire, there ok but i personally think the Ico-tec gc 350 or 500 (which ive got) are better, number one is the hand set will work to extended ranges (300 yds?), some time's the foxpro's wouldn't work at 80 yds, if you are near a radio mast you have to nearly touch the foxpro's hand set to the caller to make it work, the Ico-tec will still work out to 50 yds in situations like this.
Also should you need any spares it easier to get them for the Ico-tec (Best fox call) than it is for the fox pro's, i lost the battery cover for my foxpro, that was a USA job .
This time of year the most successful one/s, six-ish vixen calls then switch to vixen on heat -------brings in both vixens and dog foxes, other times of year cub distress fox fight, then you have rat, rabbit, pheasant, vole, squirrel, mouse, ------don't think anyone use's more than 25 calls.
I position the caller around 25yds to the side of me ----reason being you want the fox looking at the caller not you , and a lot of the times the fox can come in and sit 180yds-ish from the sound and will not commit any more, this still leaves it within range of most centre fire rifles.
