Gold medal question ( not deer)

I have a gold medal and I'm wondering if any of you out there have any ideas what it was won for? I was told it was for pigeon racing and that the HHS stood for hensingham homing society, but had no reply from them, that's in Cumbria and he did com from near there apparently, the fact it's 9ct gold surely means it was for a relatively important feat, you're a clever lot out there so I'm hoping someone can enlighten me, thanks in advance R

Thanks, this guy was born in The same year as the medal is dated so I doubt it, I know that medals were awarded years after but it just doesn't strike me as a military design? R

Homing pigeon awards that I've seen, most have had the distance of the race and the birds velocity over the distance in yards per minute or mph.
Nice looking medal tho.
