One thing no one seems to have mentioned is that leather boots do take a little care.

Worth also reproofing those spare pairs kept boxed away.

Altberg boots are not made in Richmond. They offer a very basic foot measuring service a resole option and if you want handmade your looking at £££££. 99% of the boots are made abroad and imported.

I'm having issues with my Altbergs which I hope they will resolve, although would probably buy another pair just because they are so comfortable.

I use them in the summer and have Raby boots for winter, which are the ones I've been having issues with.

I've had Altberg Defenders, Haix and Karrimor SF boots over the last few years. The Altbergs were OK, the Haix nearly crippled me and the Karrimor are a good, comfy boot but I find they "creak". However, I've recently treated myself to a pair of Grisport Gamekeeper boots. They are so good, really comfortable straight out of the box, appear well made and have plenty of toe room (wide fitting). I've used the excellent Grisport Dartmoor shoe/low boot for years which prompted me to go for the Gamekeepers. I know what I'll be be replacing them with when the time comes. They won't break the bank either.
