I called into this small block the other evening as I often see rabbits so had taken the .22lr with this lad coming up the track, so way under gunned also out of time
Rabbits were MIA!
The new owner has trial lines of trees also a 2 year scheme which is quite high making the muntjac & foxes close to impossible, however with the rut starting I thought it might be worth a look as it is local.
The ditch line is full of oaks so the drilled scheme has not taken leaving a wide gap also a good vantage point! Shot a few fallow here over time as they like to hide in the woodland area further along then move onto the crops, not need for the thermal as his head tossing and white neck showed up on the high ground with him thrashing a
few small volunteer trees on the way down! Only a front end shot until he turned! either way was good just flipping turn!! Left it was
he pulled up on the second bahh and off went the 150gn lump of lead, good solid thump and he was off.....then down!
Moved him to a quiet corner for cleaning out so a ride on the cart up on the hoist and tied off to get him done home and in the chiller.
He should be 54/53kg in the morning.
Smaller Nth Essex buck from Tuesday @37kg
