My missus and I are sitting in our caravan planning our walk to Sycamore Gap tomorrow. I guess mostly that won't be happening! She has been looking forward to it for ages, we were going to round the day off watching Robin Hood for some reason.

My theory been a hardcore anti blood sports group is involved to appear as a reprisal by hunting folks against the natural trust on the back of the recent channel four programme and its anti hunting content

Whoever thought it was a good idea to cut the tree down clearly had some (youtube) knowledge on how to fell a tree. But judging by the cuts they weren't done by a professional. Reminds me of my felling cuts when I first started learning how to be an arborist so I'd assume its someone who's similarly inexperienced but has the basic knowledge. Unfortunately not enough knowledge to realise that felling that tree isn't a good thing to do. On another note, it has to be vandalism as if it was done professionally for safety reasons it would have been dismantled and brash chipped due to its location or felled the opposite way from the wall at the very least. Hope they catch whoever has done it

Searched on google for a gap and found a stump, that didn't take long.

The Police now have a 16-year old male assisting them with their enquiries. If charged & convicted expect a sentence involving probation in the care of the following Scottish Forestry Department: Felling permission

It will never replace it but I would commission a very large statement-like piece of steel artwork to fill the gap.

Well they certainly made orgies and crucifixion popular which had to be a good thing though sadly we have lost the old wood and nails carry on.

just watched a national trust fellow say on the news he felt he had lost a family member and site has police protection could not help but giggle at reaction but not the deed considering their u turn on hunting and attitude.

Tragic about the tree. Anyone remember years ago on the gardening programs. Somebody wrote in asking about how far from thier house they should plant a sycamore tree. Answer 25 miles.

if you were going to just cut it down why would you mark the cut line with white spray paint?
