... The thing I struggle to get my head around is the fact that you can go and buy an air rifle if you are old enough and not a prohibited person, they are, in effect, a mechanical blowpipe of some magnitude compared to a bit of plastic and a lungful of wind.

Who makes the rules tho ? Politicians. Now some might understand why I despise Thatcher so greatly. The woman who some say represented "British values"? What's more "British" to many of in the 1960s than using plastic biro tubes to blow rolled balls blotting paper soaked with Quink "Royal Blue Non-Permanent Washable Ink" at each other? Or buying the factory made pea shooters with tubes from rolled tinplate and its slightly dished red or blue plastic mouthpiece the diameter of a old penny? Loaded from the packeted dried peas you'd just before filled your cheek with? The woman knew the price of everything and yet the value of nothing. A vile and ignorant bitch who set running many of those laws that began the cult of the "nanny state" mentality. And that's even before her trying to deny War Widows (like my late mother) having their pensions restored that they had lost on re-marriage. Long may she rot in hell for what she did to this United Kingdom.

UK is just one big cluster f*ck of privately educated scum leading us under the control of there billionaire masters to slaughter and now we’re in the slaughter house with no way out. It’s a fact, no singular person or party could ever lead us out the mess we are in now.
As far as guns go the hassle to get your gun license should mean your the most trusted and vetted person of the public and er go it should make no difference if you own a .22rf or a .50bmg
All should be used with a suitable backstop determined suitable by the license holder and that should be that whether it’s in pistol, under level, semi auto everything should be fine in the right hands
The gun laws are just absolute bollocks, you just have to ask why there is a desperation by politicians to take guns out of public hands, if your that vetted what could they fear would happen.

Mental health problems, is what could happen… just because you were checked once doesn’t mean it won’t occur in the future. Or that actually it was reported in the first place. We have examples of that going wrong in this country within the last few years.
Additionally you say “gun holders” are trustworthy yet there’s another thread on this forum when 3 of them stole someone else’s stuff at the Stalking Show.

well not saying I have a perfect solution and Mental Health is a real thing with real outcomes and mixing guns into that is not sensible no but maybe there’s other solution
Idk but when kids by me are being caught with long knives and machetes and crime seems to be going unchecked oh and terrorism seems to be on the rise then I question the ability of authorities to keep us safe when the Police are dropping like flys and gov is struggling to keep society safe
Idk yeh many guns or whatever isn’t the answer you make a fair argument but something needs to be done
Pepper spray should be legalised 100% imo tho

we like to think that gun owners are trustworthy but they are just a cross section of society as a whole. You have the good the bad and the ugly in their ranks. How many I wonder are on this forum who like to smoke a joint, partake of the white marching powder or drink more than is sensible or are light fingered? It would be nieve to think all gun owner were sweetness and light.
