Heated grips

I've ordered a set of OEM heated grips for my quad. Interested to hear if anyone else has fitted a set, and whether they do actually make a lot of difference? 👍

They work ok ish, but not as good as handle bar muffs, muffs and heated grips is better.
I can't use muffs as there are too many buttons. Instead, I've fitted wind deflectors which seem to work to a degree. I think a combination of these, light gloves, and the heated grips might work ok? 🤔

As previously advised, I have heated grips and soft deflectors too. Don’t be a cheapskate and only get the grips otherwise your thumb will still freeze. I retrospectively added a thumb heater to mine and frankly, they get a lot of use as having warn toasty hands on coldish wet days is bliss - they’re not just for winter! The controller is on the left of the aux rail and the red heat shrink on the throttle is my add-on.

Nice! I've ordered the CFmoto kit that has the throttle heater included. It's a direct bolt-on kit that plugs into the existing loom. Hopefully be here by the weekend. Does the throttle heater really make all the difference then?

I hate full muffs - bloody dangerous things with thumb throttles and have been mulling over some heated grips for my Honda.

@wytonpjs - which kit did you fit to yours and how complex for an idiot to DIY? Asking for a friend :-|

So........... I've recently had to replace the grips as one failed.

The originals were Oxfords I believe but I bought a set of KOSO 5 Level Heated Grips 7/8" L=120mm last year as they appeared to be identical and I only wanted to replace the LH grip, not the controller/RH grip, ie a plug and play swap out of just the LH grip. I wouldn't recommend going with this second lot again as they took an eternity to arrive. Sod's law, the RH gave up shortly after too! As posted, I was a cheapskate back in 2018 so only bought a motorcycle set with just the grips. Big mistake, you need the thumb add-on. I retrospectively bought a small heat pad and added it in. Works well although can be quite warm.

I do recommend getting a 3 element kit with a variable stage controller as I find I end up reducing the settings down in use to match the ambient. The are easy to install but you'll need to remove panels and feed the cables back to an ignition controlled supply through a fuse. If you were closer, I'd do it for you :tiphat:

Something like this is what I'd go for again: https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/oxford/22272530

Do check your handlebar diameter to see that any you buy will fit! And do not use too much washing up liquid to ease the grips into position - it takes an eternity to dry out and stop rotating

Thank you - very grateful. I might take the plunge!

BTW - we used to use hairspray on mountain bike grips. Stayed liquid long enough to slide them in place but quickly "set" and none of the issues of fairy liquid.

Just ordered from here: Oxford Heated ATV Grips with Thumbwarmer

I'll update the thread with some fitting feedback when they arrive. Not quite as simple as the CFMoto option but thanks @Quixote for the bump to get me moving. Sure my hands will appreciate it on bitter winter mornings - which feel a long way off. It was 14C at about 350m ASL this morning at 5am 🥵
Autumn's arrived here, for sure. We're seeing 8C at night just now, and the air has definitely dropped cooler. Still, after the summer we've just had, a return to a proper dry & cold winter will be welcome.

How many amps or watts to they draw? I always think of anything heated as drawing a lot of power and therefore with elevated chance of killing my battery, which is already going to be 20% down on cold days already!

Not sure. As it's a manufacturer specified kit I'm fairly certain they'd have taken the additional load into account 🤔

As you've seen, I have a USB outlet on my quad Aux Rail which permanently shows the battery voltage (useful to see that its charging :coat:). On mine, the battery voltage drops a fraction of a volt not matter what the setting on the 5-stage controller is set to for the grips. I also have a heated seat pad (come on @75 you won't regret that either ) and with both running I'm still around 13-14v.

Had heated grips for years on our quad bikes wouldn't be without them now, even had them wear down till the wiring was showing through the rubber best thing I found to refurb them was to get electrical heat shrink wrap and cover hand grips with it works a treat at minimal cost compared to new grip sets.

Finally arrived today! Absolute doddle to instal. Hardest part was figuring out how to get the plastics off! They take a minute or two to heat up, but I think they'll make a pretty big difference. Money well spent, I reckon

I put a set on my argo years ago, that and a heated seat. My pals all mocked it till they tried it, and now, all like it. Fairly helps on a chill evening!
When my wee KLF arrived the first thing I did was harrow my horse pasture. In October. With no gloves! The resultant pain drove that mistake to be swiftly remedied with muffs! They're great on the KLF, but there're too many controls and buttons on the new one, so guards and heated grips should hopefully work!

What d'you think of the heated seat?
