High seat essentials

I was out on fallow and munties a couple of weeks back, mainly sat in a high seat for around Four hours at a time, a couple of the guys had foam pads to sit on, heated socks and electronic hand warmers which I’ve since bought for walking and seem to be a brilliant idea but this got me thinking as to what people like to take when in a high seat or a box. I know this topic has been covered previously but technology moves on so what are people’s go to items, earphones, books, cigars, sit pads / cushions, battery powered heated socks………..what is everyone using?

I'm pretty alright feet wise with my merino wall socks, under thermal leggings and my hanwag boots. Ive definitely been looking at the hand warmers though. Juet conscious it's yet another thing to try ensure is charged. Can't miss it, if I've not had it. Might listen to an audio book with one headphone. Looked at inflatable seats etc, but not used or had a need for one just yet.

Flask of tea and a packet of tobacco.

Went on a paid high seat session with a chap. Part way through it starts raining. Not terribly, but my guide had a brolly. He pops it up, only he's only holding it over himself.

He seems oblivious that my head is now in a torrent of drip water from the edge of his umbrella.

I'm simply too polite to say anything.

I've now got a much better jacket, with a good hood. Warm and dry is the goal so get the basic clothing right.

All my seats are set up so I can get out and stalk/move to work a shot, one is more like a viewing platform as I have only shot 2 deer from it but over time shot around 35 by getting out and getting to make a shot.
Most of my outings are around 1 1/2 hrs with 1/3 of the time I will spot one coming down a wood line then down nip through cover and get a shot.
Over time I have worked out the timings as tonight I went to my friends place for 4.30 saw 2 muntjac around 5 with them back in cover so no shot pulled the plug at 6.
Can't help you quite with what you asked but that is how I don't freeze lol

+1 for a foam pad to sit on, I have a piece of foam bedding roll that is tri-folded & cut to a size that fits nicely into the ‘poachers pocket’ on the back of my jacket. It’s warm to sit on, either in a ladder or on the ground, & it’s waterproof so no cold wet backside! Mrs DB bought me a self inflating cushion which was great but it sprang a leak on one of the welded seams ☹️ So she bought me another - it’s got a leak somewhere too!

Probably the best ever buy I’ve got, as far as stalking kit goes, is the Dutch army surplus neck tube - it cost me £1 many years ago, not only does it keep drafts off my neck it also lifts up to cover ears when the wind is a bit keen & can be pulled up over the nose to reduce the amount of white face visible too.

Foam kneeling pad to sit on.
Depending on the where, sometimes a flask of tea and some food.
Heated jacket. Can’t live without it.
Waterproof lined warm trousers. The worst thing about being on a high seat in the winter, has to be getting cold. So all steps to keep me warm.
Fleece fingerless mittens with fleece over foam. Only glove I ever had that kept me warm.
Puffer jacket under my waterproof and over my heated jacket. Did I mention I don’t like being cold?
Often a book if nothing is happening.
Sometimes an air rifle to have a pop at the squirrels if nothing is happening. I get bored easily.
I have been thinking about those golf umbrellas. Some sort of a bracket so I can sit it in there and help keep the rain off.
Neck tubes, as has been said. I hate the wind blowing on my neck.

i take a foam mat with me for high seat and have a small fishing bag with me that holds caller, remote, ir, decoy
thermal spotter plus rifle bolt, two mags spare battery for ir and thermal my hand call a pair of latex gloves last but not least a couple of chocolate bars and a packet of crisps just in case i get peckish
clothes wise wrap up if its cold cold i double thermal bottoms and tops then build layers from there i work on the theory i can take something off but cant put it on if i havent got it a good pair of bates patrol boots and a pair of two finger gloves and im good to go for at least 3-4 hours

I recently bought a Sportschief jacket. A Canadian camo thing with some serious insulation. Going to see what’s it’s like in the high seat, I expect good things from it. I don’t think I’d want to walk far in it though. Other than that a small Coca Cola can sized flask of mixed hot chocolate and coffee and a Thermarest square inflatable mat which rolls up and fits in a pocket. Good gloves and merino neck warmer / watch cap obviously.

I didn’t half get some stick from my non stalking friends when my electronic hand warmers turned up at work but after 4 hours in a high seat I’ve realised that being comfortable makes the experience much more enjoyable

Thermal gilet and a good warm hat and something to make a seat dry to sit on.
Inbuilt insulation sorts the rest!!
