I can't see any advantage in having a cast aluminium frame reloading press, the working parts will still be steel. The RCBS partner press also has only a small opening which could restrict access if loading longer cartridges.
I've never had a problem with rust with any of the presses that I've owned but there again while I've usually had them in an outside building I've always wiped them over with an oily rag every now and again and always covered them when not in use.
Good choice go for a very old one as they did not get cast in China.
RCBS reloading press components, specifically frames, have been manufactured in China for a period, though there were quality issues that led to the practice being discontinued for a time. Some older presses were made in the United States, while newer production is subject to the current manufacturing location. When purchasing an RCBS press, checking the "country of origin" or manufacturer details is recommended to understand where the specific press was made.
Past manufacturing in China: Some users and forums report that RCBS outsourced the casting of some press frames to China in the past, with machining done in the United States.
Quality concerns: This arrangement led to quality issues, which reportedly caused the company to bring the casting process back to the USA for a period.
Current situation: The current manufacturing location can vary, and it is best to check the product's specific country of origin for the most accurate information.
Older vs. new presses: Older presses, especially those from around the 1990s or earlier, are more likely to be made entirely in the United States.
How to check: To determine the origin of a specific press, it is best to check the product's country of origin information provided by the retailer or the manufacturer's product details.
I wouldn't worry about where RCBS source their castings or any long resolved possible quality issues they may have had at one time in the past. Their warranty is legendary and probably one of the best reasons for buying RCBS.
