Home made High Seat

Fair play, the "basket" as I call it will catch a fair bit of wind also If you see the op's ladder it flairs out both ends so a wider contact.
Not a pick list but from what I have come up against after building 7 seats (modifying 2 as they were siht)
Remember you can un bolt ratchet straps so the hook lays the other way (people just twist them) that way it does not dig into the tree or worse the ratchet mechanism.
You can dig in the feet and backfill (ram the earth around it) helps a lot.
I have 25/30mm sticks tucked up the seats as sometimes you are screwed around and have no "dead rest" so your elbow is just floating, my sticks lay across and make a rest.
Cutting you back part shorter will bring your basket closer and use 2 ratchet straps is a must.

Good luck

Same ladder 2 straps school chair type seat (much better)

The legs are dug in and leveled

Right, apologies for the delayed reply. I got the seat up, then went foxing. Interrupted by an electrical storm quite close to the other seat I was in and beat a hasty retreat from the steel cage under an oak connected by the steel ladder to the ground. Feared I would be found still smouldering looking like chicken in a basket cooked by thermonuclear fission.
While stable-ish, the 4.7m ladder is too long in my view. Eyes bigger than my stomach. The length of stand off is way too much and needs to be shortened to 5-6inches. More work to be done. The bar is too low, so the exhaust clips will be set so allowing the bar to sit at an angle. Will report back.

Well done, Looking I would make 2 short loops of chain around the rung "fixing points" (bolts and penny washers ) by the tree and dog it to the tree with a ratchet strap when you have your final fix.
I make stuff for a living so you will find my short cuts harder to follow but I have to otherwise jobs (the bill) goes up and up.

I agree, reckon that that would be the trick, I thought about a couple of these fellows on a piece of 2x 4 fixed to the top rung of the IBC cage against the trunk, or sliding some No. 8 wire through the rung and twisting around the trunk. Trouble is that the wire is not very kind to the tree. It's only a sycamore, but somehow I just wonder if I would like it done to me. It's a nice one and was there long before I was. I think I might be turning peacenik in my old age! Chain sounds like a better option. I will see how we go. Really appreciate your help with this Tim. Thank you.

Some cast off truck strapping is used often here as it spreads the load out on the bark.

Has anyone tried successfully to add a section to one of the attached photo?
I need a semi portable seat, that will fit in a car (not on)
I've picked up a 4m/ 5m and a 3m/ 4m on market place.
Need height to get a decent backstop.
Looking at drilling out the rivets from one of the 3m sections and adding to the longer ladder as a seat mounting area (riveting back place of the bottom spreader base.
Also looking at possibly removing a rung of the 'seat' an bending the uprights out (as sparks I should remember the name!)
To create a V to rest against the tree.

Will be ratchet strapped top and middle with 8ft ply anti climb board 😉

Thanks, TD66

Edit...Stiles.. the bits you should use as a break for depending the ladder quickly without your feet on the rungs 😉

Have you considered increasing the height at the foot of the ladder. I would be reluctant to make alterations at the top end where stability is critical.
I made a bolt on seat for a 4 section lidl / aldi ladder. I will post photos when I am in the vicinity this weekend.
One thing I advise is packing the joints with grease. Those ladders are not designed for permanent outdoor use

This is one we are building at the moment for fox control.
It is portable two man . It will fit in the back of a renault kangoo van.
The legs are 5ft
It has to be galvanised and painted green.
