The one I made was just cheap softwood, as it was the first, from B&Q I think.

Just checked at my local builders merchant, (RGB in Tiverton, but any should be able to help), hardwood dowel 28mm dia in what looks like Ramin available off the shelf.

This mob do an unspecified hardwood in 30.5mm dia and Oak in 28 & 32 mm by post:

On the web site, I think the price is £115 - 150 - still not bargain-basement, but better than £350! Not that much more than Knoblock or Bogpods.

they look great in the flesh, saw a guy out with a set last week, his mum had bought him them for Christmas, £350 for set of sticks is a bit steep, you would be gutted if you left them against the ladder of a high seat at last light!!

Has anyone seen these sticks? Rifle stick - rifle sticks - The forester's rifle stick for stalking
You can even have them engraved with your initials.... nice :???:
Very pricey but they do look easy to manage??
Just wondering if there's anyone out there uses them??

I bought a set of these sticks recently and have to say there are excellent, I paid £170 including postage but didnt have any fancy engravings done. Solid as a rock and at the risk of advertising the speed of manufacturer and customer service is excellent. Will easily last a lifetime of stalking, assuming you dont leave em against a highseat, and you can send em back for repairs etc.

To be honest I'm looking to buy some soon but I was wondering if...
They as easy to use as they look?
When they are closed together do you not get any 'parting' of the two pieces?

B&Q plastic coated metal garden canes.

Rubber tubing/heavy duty band (I used an old rubber drysuit cuff seal)towards the top with a neoprene sleeve (think a 1/4 of a moderator cover) over the rubber and another sleeve further down.

Slide the lower sleeve up to open up the sticks and down a bit to stop them opening too much when taking the shot.

Takes seconds to move the rubber and neoprene up or down so can be used for sitting /kneeling shots too.

About 10 yrs ago I came across a set of Stoney Point Polecats at the Midland game fair. They were quite expensive but they have paid for themselves times over. Unextended they are perfect for kneeing shots and extended are the same for standing shots. I have modified them a little, re riveted tops and a small section of grey foam lagging prevents any metalic noise if they bang together. They are light, strong and rugged.

These are the best 'normal' stalking sticks. I haven't tried any six legged gold plated ones yet as the Stoney Points do all I ask of them. Where I am stick shots tend to be less than 60m. JC

I'll be trying a new home-made shooting stick next weekend for hill reds. It's quite intricate really, it's a straight hazel stick, approx. 0.75" (bottom) to 1.25" wide (top), and approx. 5ft high/long....simples:D

Ahhh, thanks Orion, I should take the time to read about them instead of just looking at the pretty pictures!!!
