Hi. I'm in the early stages of working up a load for Hornady sst in .308 125gr with n140 propellant for use on Roe. it's looking like 46.5 grains and around 71mm coal but need to experiment with the coal. had decent groups at 71 and 71.6mm coal with 46.5 gr and also at 71mm coal with 46.9gr. anyone else done similar and have any advice or observations. need to put some through a chronograph to check speeds but starting to think these dont like being pushed too fast. I'm shooting a browning xbolt 20 inch barrel and total novice to reloading. cheers.

Do you have previous experience of the bullet in e.g. factory load? If not, I'd get some experience before deciding on the velocity. Hornady does load 125 SST in Custom Lite, MV is only 2675fps.

Personally I have reduced load using 125gr Nosler BT / Accubond and VV N120. At full speed the terminal effects might be "interesting", depending on your shot placement.

hi, thanks for your answer. I have no experience of a factory load with this bullet head but I do know my rifle shoots 125gr Sako gamehead accurately, it is accuracy I am chasing rather than velocity, just trying to achieve this with home loads to be cheaper than factory ammo and also for the fun/satisfaction of using my own ammo.
