how far north have muntjac made it

How do people catch deer (muntjac in this case) before moving them? Does it happen often?

Loads get caught in Pheasant catchers and Phesant pens. All it takes then is for someone to re-homed them.
I would have thought any that have been could by dog would be pretty traumatised :old:

There's defo Muntjac up north, I shot my first and only one up near Scatwell...

Not that much colder ? .... we had a night at -19 degs C last winter and many nights at -10 to -14... dont think Engerlandshire gets weather like that much. Wee drop of snow ground England to a halt this week :D

Roe struggled with us this last 2 winters and we had quite a few yearlings not make it through so I reckon Mr Munty aint got much hope... his wee belly would be grounded on the snow for weeks

It has been -11 here (South Oxfordshire) for two or three nights this week and the temp in Lincs was -16 last night, last winter they measured -18 at RAF Benson just down the road from me. There's snow on the ground here and it's -6 now but the munties look fit and well. We have a huge head of munties where I am and they came through the last two winters where we had a lot of snow and very prolonged severe weather with no problems at all so I don't see why they wouldn't survive in Jockistan. Munties are very, very tough and adaptable, don't underestimate just how resilient they are.

As a rule I was always told they'd not made it past the Humber yet. I live in south Yorkshire directly inland from the Humber and we don't have them here. Though they do have them about 10 miles south of Doncaster.

Reliable recordings of muntys from wildlife trust wardens centred around will pitts wood north of Doncaster.

I saw one yesterday on a fox drive 6 miles south of the Humber. My first sighting of a north Lincs muntjac although I have seen slots in the past.

Will Pits wood is near Thorne.

I've heard of some sightings at Novar at Evanton but I'd probably need to see them myself, but Muntjac live up here north of Inverness no bother at all and survive in the cold and snow fine. I used to have afew Muntjac up here and they did fine.

Where they wild or 'pets' just wondering as I've never heard talk of them up this neck of the woods?

cheers

As already stated muntjac are very resilient. Lurcher boys do catch them down South and rehome them up North.....FACT!

Dear Alis, was it you who shot my muntjac, please let me know as I heard it was shot there and wondered what exactly happened, cheers.
