How many deer do you shoot in a season

I’ve had a slow start to this season with holidays, kids birthday and work related toil, plus a lot of poaching has meant we are leaving certain areas as numbers are low. Finally getting back into numbers in a few new areas though and hoping to reach 30 or so by the end of the season.

I know of local guys shooting 60 or so a year, but they don’t have 9-5 jobs so get out a bit more.

I wondered what the average is here?

You’ll find people are quite reluctant to publicise this, for all sorts of reasons!

As @VSS says, on here it varies from <2 to >500.

I imagine most recreational stalkers (as opposed to keepers and contractors) will be somewhere between 10 and 50.

roughly 100, majority muntjac and roe with a few fallow and red , luckily i only work 14 shifts a month so that helps with time, I should add I’ve a couple lads help me out too but not included their deer in that number

You can make yourself feel all warm and fuzzy if
You wish but for every buck you shoot 2 come to the funeral!
 just making it clear that if you dont explain it properly you will get some picky bell end like me making tongue in cheek comments.

The ground I shoot with fallow on want the deer hit as hard as I can so I make a start on the 01st Aug, shoot as many as I can, then come 01st Nov I carry on but generally shoot does first and if a buck or pricket is all I see then that gets it.

So I was agreeing with you in a round about way...if that makes sense.

Well it does, by 1.

You're right but that's not what OP meant. When talking about reducing numbers, you're talking about a population as a whole. If you want to reduce numbers, you need to reduce the reproduction rate which means shooting females. By shooting a male, sure, it'll take one from the population but as Norfolk said, two more will come the funeral. If you shoot a female, you take one and you remove her contribution to subsequent reproduction. In other words, shoot the female and you're taking her and her potential offspring that will come over the next few years out of the population.

Or at least that's how I look at it when culling numbers

Yes, but at least I don’t need Velcro gloves🙈🤣 shooting a creedmoor explains everything to me black-and-white!

And what all you boys and girls need to do is stop worrying about the males and thack the females as much and hard as possible here end of the lesson on deer management management😬

The old days of worshipping the males is long gone leave the big boys alone to do their own job and then he will do it all for you by keeping the crap away, all you boys and girls who get excited over shooting big antlered males are only making work for yourself.

🥰I love your responses Lee and I have already told you I agree with you.

Can I also point out that the velcro gloves and velcro body suit are nothing to do with a creedmoor....the "ventilated" trousers are but lets not go there :lol:

None of the bucks I shoot are large antlered so for me that isnt the point, it just allows me to start 3 months earlier then get onto the does 01st Nov.

Get back to your bog snorkling or be a bit more clear on what you type 😛
