Hunting usa

Planning a trip to the USA next October has anyone got any contacts or recommendations for hunting elk or white tail or something similar

Outfitter probably and we've not decided on final destinations and have no plans set in stone so id be pretty flexible

Outfitters over there are pretty expensive as what they make in the season they live off for the rest of the year, then there is the non resident hunting licence which runs ca. $3-400 and you have to also apply generally for a tag, elk are sure to be harder to get, the white tails are in the central to eastern states mule deer then in the western states. Canada has larger white tails as northland is colder.
Happy hunting.

You might want to get into the mood before you go.
Beats Netflix

Check out the prices, they’re eye watering, and that’s before you factor in flights and accommodation.Don’t forget the tips, and local taxes that’ll add another 20% or so.
You may be better off offering to swap a hunt. What you have to offer in the UK is simply unbelievable to an American hunter raised on strict limits and short seasons.
Year round seasons, 6 species of deer, plus birds and waterfowl, no bag limits, and a relatively mild climate ?
Its a no brainer if you’re up for it.

I'll be happy to help but as has been said, its a big place and you'll need to narrow your focus before my advice will be of much use to you. Each state is different when it comes to season dates and lottery vs over the counter licenses, and there is no guarantee with the lottery licenses which in my state are not drawn until June. Some outfitters do have access to landowner tags which are guaranteed but can be expensive. In Colorado you should budget $2000-2500 for deer and $3000-20000 for elk if you use an outfitter.

Ha, when I lived in Roswell NM in 1993 the licence as resident including mule deer and African Oryx (Gemsbok) plus some released Aoudad (Barbary Sheep) near Carlsbad cost me all in less than $100.

This is the price list for Colorado 2025

As a resident the prices are not prohibitive. As a non-resident however??
Add in the costs involved with an international trip and you really need to have your ducks in a row to insure success.

OP, you need to do a bit of research yourself and then get back to us.
Take a look at a few videos. Randy Newberg is a good start.
When you have decided on a state start your planning, its half the fun, if it's the Rockies, if you're not fit, get fit.
Costs, plane fare, car rental, accommodation, food, equipment and tag, add all those up and I bet it doesn't amount to the cost an outfitter will charge you to hunt an Elk.
I've done Montana 4 times, DIY, had 2 bull Elk, 2 whitetail and a Mule deer buck...oh and lots of fish!
Plan on a minimum 2 week stay.

Take a look at some more southern states. North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama. They all have reasonable prices for non resident hunting, good number of deer (white tail). The Carolina's have bear too.
Seasons are a good length in GA especially if you bow hunt.

My first suggestion would be to decide what species you want to target and how you want to attempt to take it.

Archery whitetail in the Eastern US is affordable and tags are almost certain.
Gun whitetail will be a bit harder, as some states will require a drawing
Elk in the eastern US would be exceedingly difficult to draw

I might also suggest looking at Canada, The Maritime provinces have reasonably priced guided hunts for whitetail, bear and moose.

Think on it a bit more and once you’ve got your thoughts narrowed down I’d be glad to help out.

South Carolina has too many deer so you get lots of tags, then again on public land it was hard to find a quiet spot as bright orange numpties walk through where you are without scanning the area even after seeing your vehicle was parked up a distance away.
