in the news..

Ed, why not join generations of enterprising Scots and head south? The reason Scotland's full of McNumptys now is that all the good ones left.

Probably because the best shooting is here and always will be. Despite the efforts of the lefties shooting and stalking will continue as it is necessary for woodland creation, environmental protection and the rural economy. Publicly seeking politicians may not publicly state that but (most) appreciate those facts.

P.s. the politician leading this attack is not a member of the Silly Numptie Party but is a Labour member

“Too much violence on the streets already.” WTF?

These people can vote and breed. I despair.

Wishing you every success Ed.

Both negative comments are incredibly telling and, if a positive may be taken from this disgrace, should inform the campaigning by those disparate organisations that claim to represent our interests.

Ed, don't forget the following sign in the shop window:

"ONLY ONE SCHOOL PUPIL IN THE SHOP AT A TIME PLEASE"

:D

All the best

And now on the floor of Holyrood. First Ministers questions today......

Labour MSP highlights gun shop opening near schoolLabour MSP Daniel Johnson raises the recent opening of a gun shop nearby a primary school in his constituency.
Ms Sturgeon says she is not "instinctively comfortable" with this but is not aware of the specifics of the case.
She agrees to come back to the member if there is more action the Scottish government can take, and recommends he contact the police for further information

I swore, horribly, under my breath when I read this. Execrable bullsh*t from one of worst politicians Scotland has suffered in a long time. I knew, just knew that single-party governance was going to be our fate from the moment the Referendum result was in, and that it was going to be the SNP that were given free rein to jackboot all over the rights of those who didn't fit their agenda. I was dead set against another Independence Referendum, but if it gives us the opportunity to be free of the parasitic, incompetent dictators sitting in their Holyrood ivory tower then bring it on I say. A pox on them all

Well for my part I watched this live as usual, and found nothing really to moan about. The question was deftly handled by NS, and deflected back to the local member for action. There are always objections from Mumsnet & the like when gunshops open up. We had the same down here when FRSS started up. Nothing came of it. A firearms dealership is a legitimate business activity, and that’s the end of this I would hope.

Recreational Use of Firearms (Regulation)

Daniel Johnson (Edinburgh Southern) (Lab):

In recent days, the recreational use of firearms has been in the press, from the shooting of goats to an issue of concern in my constituency about the opening of a gun shop mere yards from South Morningside primary school. The school has been in touch with the police, but it can take no action because the police’s locus is over who can be a firearms dealer and not where those businesses locate. The council has no locus, because the police regulate firearms. Indeed, on that basis, the council would have more interest if someone was seeking to open a fast-food joint rather than a gun shop. Does the First Minister believe that a gun shop is just another shop? Does she believe, as I do, that this apparent loophole should be closed, and that we should regulate not just who can operate firearms businesses but where such businesses operate? Does she believe that it is right to have a gun shop next to a primary school? I know that I do not.

The First Minister (Nicola Sturgeon):

I thank the member for raising the issue. I do not know the details about the shop that he has raised but, in general terms, I agree that that issue is not something that I feel instinctively comfortable with, so I understand his concerns. I also agree that we should not see gun shops as just the same as all other shops, for very obvious reasons.

As Daniel Johnson will be aware, the power to make most firearms legislation is reserved to Westminster, with the exception of that on air weapons—we are the only part of Great Britain to license those—and firearms licences are issued by Police Scotland. I am more than happy to look into the particular case that he raises, and to come back to him if I think that there is more action that the Scottish Government ,or any of our agencies, should be taking. If he has not already done so, I also encourage him to raise his concerns with Police Scotland. I understand the reasons for what he has described today causing deep disquiet, and I am sure that many other people will, too.

wow have you been reading my mind?

have you been reading my mind?

I hope and pray at least 51% of us are singing from the same hymn sheet now! Although given the immediate backpedaling, and propagation of further lies from the Westminster Triumvirate in September 2014, along with the dismal SNP mismanagement over the last 11 years I suspect that figure may now be much higher

If the Scottish Nazi Party carry on the way they're doing, by then Holyrood will be a smoking ruin once Shuggie McFawke has had his way . . . . . .

Am just back from a week away and have been watching this unfold from afar

Stunned at the hysteria a one man band can create by opening a shop.

I thank you all for your messages and support.
It does worry me though when something so innocuous can go from an online poll to "Ask Nicola" First Minister's Question time in the space of 48 hours

Must have been a slow new week in Scotland and there can't have been much else on the agenda.....

This has been a real eye opener for me too, i always think of Scotland as being associated with grouse moors and premium stalking, a huge part of the economy. But i think thats where the problem is, it is a sort of twisted class warfare against the well off having fun. I really wonder what they think is going to happen if you open ? People test firing .308's out the front door ? Imformal stalking in the local park ? Its all so stupid it defies belief.
