Hi, new guy here.
I spent years stalking with my dad as his assistant, basically cutting tree lines, moving high seats and extracting deer and carrying them to his truck. But never much shooting the deer (a few in the last year).
He died earlier this year and as would be expected has left a massive hole in my life. Some of the best times we ever had together were on a stalk and so I have taken up his work to continue that bond and hopefully pass it to my sons in turn. I have two deer caliber rifles, a .270 and a .308 I favor the .308 as it is a Tikka and has a lovely action. I have other rifles and and shotguns and two fabulous labradors and enjoy country persuits.
I have just passed the DSC1 course and am looking for like-minded people who might possibly help me with obtaining ground or just opportunities to stalk with them so I can work towards my DSC2. Unfortunately all the stalkers I knew have passed away in recent years so I'm looking to build some friendships here if possible.
I am in East Sussex, near Hastings.
Thanks for reading.
Peter

Welcome to the site. Sorry to hear about your dad. Very special to have had that relationship with him. Twenty odd years since my dad died and I still tell him about my shooting or fishing days.

It's nice to hear that doesn't fade over the years. Thank you

one of the things I missed most was being able to talk about successes and failures with someone who understood me and our sport so well. It gets easier. When mum died a few years ago I found his sporting diaries in her attic. They now reside in pride of place on my bookshelves.

Hi Peter. Welcome.

Similar starting out to myself, in that I grew up shooting with my uncle until his untimely passing.

It's always good to feel a bit closer to them when out doing what you both loved.

I'm up in Hartfield, not a million miles from yourself 👍

Yeah i'm struggling with that ATM. When I passed the shooting assessment I would loved to have called him. Nice idea keeping a diary like that. Do you keep your own now?

I do keep a diary of sorts but nothing like as extensive as his. Mine is a record of things shot or caught, his are more erudite, glimpses into a time long gone.
