reflection off the mod is easily sorted with a neoprene sleeve on it it also lets it cool slower when its freezing cold
That is why people have used beam scales in reloading for donkeys years as when the weight is correct it sits in the middle.
Why sad @Tim.243?Used this for years with a lamp. Don’t see why it wouldn’t work with IR:

At a glance in boldAh. Yes - it’s definitely a little on the cheap and nasty side.
The basic structure is sound, and I think would work with metal as well.
is correct.
Why is it we as an industry spending thousands on our set ups but yet there isn’t a decent adjustable torch mount out there?!
Has anyone found a decent mount that fixes to the rifle quickly and toolless and will hold the torch zero every time?
Well, keeping it simple I use sidewinder scopes on the 455 22 and 17 Tbolt. The front scope mount has a short picatinny rail and the torches are mounted on that. The ir torches from led to VCSEL have been mounted in fixed, non adjustable brackets. A Ward WD700 on the back end completes the system. I have used that arrangement for 12 years without major aggravation. I do have a Ludicrous Lumen eyeball adjustable mount which was required for a laser torch that I wanted to raise the sight line slightly to lift the centre of the beam over the proposed target. That is a good mount and I would recommend it. Oh and to avoid glare from the moderator etc simply fit the sun shield to the scope. This arrangement doesn't require any adjustment in the field and has accounted for many rabbits and the odd suicidal fox over the years. What I use Is a basic magnetic lamp holder that I cant place under the barrel and move with my left hand at the needs. I agree with anyone who will say that is a rough solution but I learned the hard way that I can't really divine how much glare I'll have from trees & foliage when shooting from tripod or prone and the chance of being able to change the torch position and the distance from the scope in seconds is unvaluable to me.
See #8If you want rock solid then torch mounted in a suitable Burris Zee signature ring and attach this to the rail on the scope. If no suitable scope rail then attach a short scope attached rail(Ant Supplies) and attach mount to that. I used to use the adjustable metal mounts again from Ants.
