Irritated paws

when we go roosting pigeons about an hour afterwards my dog and a pals dog start getting irritated paws! The nettles have died off but also with nettles it’s fairly instant generally I tend to avoid nettles best I can anyway there’s nothing in the wood that screams out at me. Mines a springer and my pals dogs a cocker but I doubt it’s anything to do with the breeds. We are based in North Yorkshire so we don’t really have any nasty plants. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Not the same problem as you have, but we just noticed a clump of hair dead centre of one front paw on one of our Teckels, seems it was pine resin clumped with soil from digging around roots, hell of a job to get Otto to sit still while I went in with the mini shears.

Cheers everyone 👍🏻 much appreciated I think like what was commented it could be tiny like nettles in the ground. Never had this issue several years ago but lack of cold winters probably doesn’t help

anti histamine tablets.... (dogs can have piriton tablets, but not the similar products such as pirinase). these work well and can be bought cheaply off prescription. your vet should be able to advise on dosage as it by weight (and more that a human is allowed). works well for mine

I used to have a GSD that suffered with irritation in his paws, used to use Rough Wear paw protectors to help, don’t know if they are still a thing. Shouldn’t laugh but it was funny watching the lad walk like a Giraffe on roller skates when they first went on.
