I've 4 chickens and none of then have laid an egg in 4-5 weeks so fair enough I thought, chop em, cook em, eat them and get more but then I went out and they all came running looking up at me in that hey have you brought us some treats kind of way and I bottled it.

Take out tonight, wussed it :suss:

Is there no way of re-stimulating them to lay again ? I don't own chickens, but one day maybe I'll have the room.

Hens need about 14hrs of daylight to eat enough to produce an egg daily.
When I had hens I had a light on a timer in the pen which would give them the requisite time to eat sufficient to produce. This way they laid all through the winter months.
Another tip is to only feed them layers pellets so theyre getting everything they need.
otherwise grow a pair and neck them :)

all 9 of mine have just stopped laying and they have started moulting. They always stop at the onset of autumn and the moult. Not unusual for them to start again but it could be sporadic til next spring. Dont get too concerned. The light timer thing works well but I normally try to give my hens a few weeks off before I start with artificial light.

Give more details mate I.e... age, feeding routine, food etc...
They will becoming into moult soon. I've got six years experience so pretty clued up.
Never over feed them more so treats.
New introductions will stop them from laying.
Or failing that do your Norwegian impressions bloody hilarious mate.

Are they in the molt all chickens stop laying that is why you buy them at different times so you have eggs all the time as they will molt at different times. If they are warrens or similar you would be better off eating there bedding

Don't eat there bedding as there have nothing to lay and it will be bloody hard swallowing.

Sorry couldn't resist.

Ha ha i have 3 Aylesbury/indian runner cross ducks in with my chucks and the drake has beaten up and killed two chucks...... My wife caught him at it.... Bashed him on sunday and breasted him tonight! Naughty boy!

Egg laying breeds / hybrids have no meat on them. For meat and eggs get utility or duel purpose bird like -> light Sussex, eggs and meat, yum yum

Come and take some of mine, please.
Wife and kids been away for 2 weeks. Can't keep up with my 6x chooks

they can be barren for some time after moving and settling in to new food and regime
I bought some for my parents and they were about to be chopped when they started laying.

wander round with an axe a few times....they may get the message!

Hi all, Intrduced a dozen POL birds to my existing flock and within two days a drop in egg production. The youngsters are just starting to lay, but small eggs. Have around 40 Marans and 20 Light Sussex crosses, just 10 weeks old (our next addition to the flock).

Moulting most likely. Look for silvery shine on perches, little smears of blood on eggs as a sign of red mite. Chickens need to bathe in dust. Wood ash is great for them but it needs to be somewhere where it wont get wet.

Always happy to help with poultry questions.

When did you last worm them?
