Just found the source of the smell

For about the past 3 weeks, may be a bit longer, every time I've been in the garage I got that wiff of something dead, yesterday I could also smell it outside the garage. Now my garage is more of a junk store than anything else so I've been putting it off, thinking dead rat or neighbours cat that went missing in August. Ok just decided to investigate and it wasn't good. I have a freezer in the garage that has a few roe skins and feet for dog training. About 7 or 8 pheasant carcasses which I breasted out last season and saved the rest as fox bait along with some other bits of roe carcasses. Well something had fallen off a shelf and by a stroke of bad luck had flicked the plug socket switch off. When I opened the door the contents were past defrosted, they were decomposing and giving off some heat. There was about 1/2" of blood in the bottom. I started to bin everything and then went to fetch a bucket of water to start cleaning it out only returning to find the bloody dog in there with a roe skin both dripping in rancid blood. I'm so glad I made it to the back door before the dog or things would have not been good.
All clean now but that smell is lingering DOH!

Oh that's nasty !!! I once ripped my car apart before I found the mole trap with festering mole still in situ which had somehow got into the spare wheel compartment.

Had a freezer of fish and fish bait do the same, that was so bad I had to replace the freezer. Luckily it was about 3 weeks old when it packed in, so it was under warranty - however the poor guy they tried to send to fix it didn't believe me HOW bad the smell was once the door was opened. He wished he listened afterwards!

In the summer I butchered a carcass and the remnants were stuck in the bin that was being picked up the next day, then went on holiday for two weeks to then come back and find my son hadn't put the bin out, so you can imagine the rancid smell that was coming from the bin and the maggots in the bottom, I was gagging. Suffice to say my lad got a good bit of verbal when he came in the house that day!

Cat litter was the answer to my stinking landfill bin - An oversight left a couple rabbit carcasses in there for a summer month - bin emptied, litter in to soak up the juice. stirred and shovelled out into a bag. No nasty niffs now so- Job jobbed:)

Landed lucky really, it's all gone in the bin and its due to be emptied tomorrow. Then it will be some bleach and soapy water and jet wash. Then down the street drain which is only a pavement width from my front gate

i had a large chest freezer in my garage with salmon, phesants, duck, goose, venison and 2 albino crows i was going to get stuffed.it was filled to the top ready for the summer months. anyway we had builders in re slating the roof. they unplugged the freezer for the kettle and forgot to plug back in, i found this out 4 weeks later when it was half full of liquid death.

so did you have to reposition the mother in laws body?

I had a bit of an unexplained whiff in my pick up a few months ago. Turns out the dog had pretty much swallowed a spleen whole, and puked it back up behind the passenger seat

Yep i think that we have all done it at sometime. I went dog training with a Pheasant. Rabbit and Pigeon, came home put my training bag in the garden store the long haired one shouted me as she wanted me to put some maps in the motor home we had at the time. Went away on holiday came back three weeks later walked into the garden store for my dog training bag and i could have gone fishing bag full of maggots, everything including bag went in the bin. New dummies had to be bought and my starting pistol had to be soaked in WD40 not sure if it still works as have never used it since.

Pal bought a pub I was going to refurb, he asked me to have a look round with him when he picked up the key as he could smell something bad.We found the old tenants had cats and for years they must have been dumping cat litter in the cellar, we removed more than a ton. I have smelt dead and rotting bodies and that was up there.

Glad you got your skates on wingy with your family due home and just thinking I laughed it off when your dogs licked my face the other day Nice ( not) and by the way thanx again ( watch this space) bazil

Had a wierd smell in my old discovery for a while so decided to clear it out .Found a dead bat under the passanger seat , god only knows how that got in there .

Years ago we were on a family day out. our 6 year old daughter wanted to try a crab stick so we got her one (youncan see where this is going). She started to eat it as we got back into the car to go home. Over the next days and weeks there was a very bad smell which got worse and worse.
It took us a couple more weeks to work out that Naomi did not like the crab stick and put it under the drivers seat to keep it tidy, she just forgot to take it out when we got home or tell us what she had done.

Very nasty!:

I had a large chest freezer with a years worth of venison and salmon in it which crapped out while I was away on holiday, luckily it was in the shed. it smelt so bad I had to very carefully put it on a dolly and roll it onto a trailer and dump the contents well away from habitation and skip the freezer. I got 5 foxs and god knows how may hoodies of the pile. what was very nice was the cheque from the insurance!!

It took you more than three weeks to figure out it might just be the freezer where the smell was coming from? .

I just didn't give it a thought, it's been in there about 4 years and is only used to keep carcasses and skins/feet in, I've never had a problem in the past and it took a day to work out best route of approach, I've started to clear the garage out now and can see the floor again.
