Knife handle?

Hi. I am looking at getting my wife to order me a hand made knife for a big birthday I have coming up so can I ask you experienced guys a few questions? It will get used but will be more of a keepsake than anything else to be honest. I really like the Emberleaf cael (style) knife but cannot justify their £400’ish price. I have seen quite a few knife makers with this style of knife. What steel is a must have/absolute no-no? Do the multi coloured plastic type handles retain grip in all conditions? What wood looks best in a knife handle ? Thanks for any input.

I have one getting finished in the next week or 2 at Stuart Mitchell... I will send you a photo when it arrives.

I bought 3. One for me and my two sons. Just brilliant. I sat on mine and snapped it. Stuart immediately made me a replacement free

Best thing would be speak to some of the knife makers that are trade members on here, to speak of materials, style and blade shape/length and their lead time.
No point in ordering for for a birthday coming up when you won’t see it for the next birthday.

Not sure of quality if it snapped by being sat on? I’ve literally just ordered a stuart Mitchel knife. I’ve also got several Emberleaf’s and Alan wood knives

knife **** is what I am

I have 5 Harry Boden
1 Alan Wood
1 Mitchell
1 Wilkinson’s original Mears
Zillions of Frosts. Opinel. Sabatier and Victorinox in larder

I rarely use the Bodens except one as they have ivory handles

my go to stalking is Mitchell. Except one Boden which is brilliant

Alan Wood for less than £250 second hand, I’d be looking down the second hand route and if it arrives scratched or blunt just send it to longstrider for him to put it right, I was lucky I bought this one on here, it arrived absolutely mint and razor sharp
