Any guy doing clear fell extractions of any distance has my respect.
Very rare I drag anything. But a moment of idleness yesterday morning. I resorted to the rope.
Instead of the walk back to the vehicle.

I drag reds off clearfell weekly/2 weeks. Gralloched and in a sled. Head and legs get left on until ready to hang.
Its very rare they are near a vehicle and when they are its a quad as a pick up wont get there.
Roe gets slung over the shoulder with a strap creating a sling. Once they are open its the last time they touch the ground. Just makes sense to me

Always leave head and legs on after shot, just do a full gralloch.

Got a few poachers round by us so by removing all the legs and heads, if we find any then we know poachers have been active.

Also better for the hygiene side as the carcases go straight into the restaurant.

Shooting pretty much only Roe and Muntjac, head and feet off after complete gralloch and into my bergen.
If I was shooting Fallow and Reds, I would probably leave on due to contamination concerns and do at a larder.

You would only start taking head/legs off if suspected problem so thats a slightly different issue.
I was just giving scenarios where you would take the head off. Your statement implies you don’t have to inspect the head but if it is going to an AGHA you sign a declaration to say you have inspected the head- so I am sure what you mean is you do it back at the larder.
I don’t have a problem taking the head off in the field if I can keep it clear of contamination- eg it’s a muntjac going into a clean roe sack. Obviously if it’s going to be dragged then it can stay on, but it usually comes off at the truck.
Whatever happens the AGHA is likely to be going to cut the exposed part of the neck away at the start of processing regardless of how clean it is..

Full gralloch, head and legs off and anus out at the shot site and into roe sack if required, if not and I can get the truck to it, it's straight into the carcass tray. Wouldn't dream of dragging a beast with head and legs off, just doesn't seem right.

Everything off at the (suspended) gralloch site and straight into a clean plasterers bath to take back to the trailer. I've now made a ripstop cover for the bath too as it now gets towed behind a bike back to the trailer.
