Leica Geovid...problem?

How far do people find thier geovids can range, typically? Struggling to get mine to pick up anything beyond about 500m. Can't remember if they've always been that way, or if I'm jsut noticing it more as shooting a lot more steel at distance. Batteries have bene changed.

My last pair always ranged out to 1200 to 1300 yards then then they started playing up and wouldn't range much past 300 yards.
I had them serviced and they said the rangefinder was out of alignment and they left them like new again.

Have been wondering the same about mine after 6 years of hard use as I too don’t seem to get anything beyond 700m or so. It’s not a problem as they are used for ranging shots and that’s invariably much less than that.

Do you mind me asking where you sent them to, and cost involved?

I contacted leica uk and they had a courier pick them up.
I was told they would go to Portugal and they would contact me with an estimate to repair them.
I heard nothing until the courier landed back with them a month later fully serviced with a letter saying repaired free on a good will basis.
I was lucky as I know others had to pay.

Thanks, will make contact with them. Hopefully won't be a huge cost, as only a few years old!

You were v lucky to have them repaired FOC. Mine went back to Portugal x2 durring lockdown. It cost me a lot of money. I will have to dig out the invoice.

Much the same experience as Palo… my HD-B’s stopped ranging beyond a certain distance, contacted their London service centre and they arranged for courier collection and off they went to Portugal.

Still in the warranty period so FOC.

To update - finally heard back from Leica.

i've to send them to London (at my cost) and they will forward to the repair center in portugal. Estimated repair time is 8 weeks. On top of this, the London office will charge me a 25 quid admin fee, in addition to any cost of repair .

Strange. In my case I was sent an email and had to print a prepaid label. Packed them up and took to local Hermes collection point. Came back from Portugal directly to me.

That’s not right
Email them direct
customercare.uk@leica-camera.com

They provide a label and you drop them with DHL for free

Failure to range beyond a certain distance is invariably laser alignment usually through a knock or they have been dropped
Mine have been battered and sometimes fail to measure as a result

The ones we have returned have been fixed for free

My hd-b set does up to about 1300 roughly but my older set that I gave my dad struggles to do more than 500.. never got round to sending them back as wary of paying a fortune to rectify it

That's the address I contacted, Ed. Definitely no offer to cover postage costs for me. Will email them back to push for a DHL drop off, as they're still within warranty (5 years I believe).

V strange esp if under warranty. Might be worth contacting Mark Khan who I think is head of UK sporting sales. He was at the Stalking Show.
