Rest in Peace Gunner Deane…
He was the rear gunner. The pilot landed the plane but Gunner Deane had been killed in the air combat when the plane was hit by gunfire. It was decided for some reasons to lay his body to the keeping of the ocean in the plane. Rather than seek to remove his body (before pushing the wrecked 'plane overboard) to then consign him to the keeping of the ocean in a coffin as would usually have been done.
