right i have bought myself a nightforce handle for going throught the roof of my truck. can someone point me in the direction of the best lamp too go onto it and which lamps fits? does the 170 striker fit onto for example?

Paul there is a dedicated lamp that fits the handle - the RM version of each size - there's a new RM170 just gone on eBay. I think there may be a way of mounting a 'normal' handheld version via the thread on the bottom. but obviously turning on and off is a little more tricky. Of the sizes, 170 seems to be the most popular.

Yes a standard hand held will fit, but you need a thread adaptor, solway do them for about £5.00, or as above, buy the dedicated remote lamp

the 17o id about the best one there is not to big nor too small.

I have a broken one that still works but i have had it on about 5 different vehicles over many years.

You dont say if your truck is a pickup, reason I ask is that if you fit a hand held striker you can stand in the back and operate the lamp independently or use it normally via the handle from within the cab.
My 170 striker has been in service since pre built in dimmer days and I strapped a 100w dimmer to the handle which works perfectly.

Just be sure to fit an in-line fuse in an accessible place in the wiring, mine is 20amp and has blown only once (damp) but saved the bulb and an evenings lamping. I now carry spare fuses and bulbs.

If you decide to use a filter and the lamp is left fitted to the truck its worth taping up the rim to stop water getting in, otherwise its a pain taking the filter off and drying out the water that can get trapped this also stops light leaking out sideways.
