Livens advertising

If you think the adverts for Sierra bullets clearly showing boxes of 100 and no mention of any other amount means that is what you will get think again. When mine arrived they were boxes of fifty thus getting only half the bullets I assumed I was paying for. Their response was that I could send them back for a refund of my purchase price. No mention of returning my postage.

Actually a picture CAN.be held as part of the contract. You'll need to look on the internet. It's why car adverts in glossy magazines always have smal print to say "Car shown is a Model 23 at £ 10,000" or similar wording. And take away online menus "item shown is mega family size".

I'd try a letter asking them to fulfill the original contract..."For so many boxes of bullets of quantity size shown on their website" else you will issue proceedings in Small Claims Court". I'd also contact the Trading Standards for Staffordshire.

I've got the details of Staffs Trading Standards but I really do hate the whole compensation claim nature is today's society. It would be great to receive the other 100 bullets together with an apology so I could post on here how magnanimous they were but it just ain't gonna happen. I'll just eye how annoyed I remain in a couple of days before taking any action.

Chris what bullets did you order?
Presumably you weren't familiar with the Sierra catalogue and also didn't know that it is common for heavier or specialised bullets to be sold in 50s or even occasionally in packs of 20. You would therefore have been taken in by a generic picture used for advertising purposes and assumed that the picture represented what you thought you were ordering.

I've nearly made the same mistake myself when looking for 8mm or 9.3mm bullets. What at first glance seems reasonable until I have eventually realised that the number of bullets is actually half of what I thought I was ordering and so not such a great deal after all. I wish you luck on this one but I fear that you will simply have to mark it down as a lesson learned.

As a newcomer to reloading the only other purchase I had made was Hornady 75gr V-Max which were in a box of 100 so seeing the Livens advert with a Sierra box of 100 which are obviously part of their product line I simply purchased them as a box of 100. Caveat emptor certainly applies here, at least they have now changed their advert so others are not caught out.

Price would be another indicator surely? If it seems too good to be true, it probably is ......................... etc. If purchased online I would have thought that actual quantity would have been stated at point of sale before hitting the confirm button, if not then the purchaser might have a case. If over the 'phone then both parties could possibly think they are talking about the same quantity/item unless or until it's actually mentioned or confirmed.

BTW. Which Sierra bullets were they?

Either way IMO 8x57 has it right that generic pictures of products are often used and it's worthwhile confirming what quantities are supplied.

Maybe look to one of the EU suppliers such as Strobl, AlpinHunting, Arms24, etc. if looking for good selections and often very competitive pricing.

No quantity shown anywhere in original advert or on order. The only amount was on the box shown in a large clear picture with no information to contradict it. Their adverts have now all been updated to show the correct picture and the quantity is also now stated clearly in the advert so at least some good has come from this.
