I must disagree.if you remove the bolt, thats one more thing to get lost!
I know its an old circular debate but I was always taught that bolts and rifles remain separate until the rifle needs to be made ready for stalking. I store bolts and magazines in a separate cabinet to rifles and mods at home. Each bolt is in a different coloured bolt holder (Napier) and its transferred to a bolt sheath on my belt when it leaves the cabinet. Magazines go in my pocket. As @Rutland lad states, we all have our pet routines and these steps ensure for me that I arrive at the stalking ground with the correct bolt.
Once at the ground, the bolt and magazine are fitted, the bolt holder removed from my belt and stowed in a set place readily visible to me when the tailgate is opened. For me, this provides additional security and ensures that a "fireable" rifle is never even briefly left unattended. Others will disagree, but it works for me!
