good afternoon, with the large rifle primer shortage i have to buy whats available locally.so in my service i have been able to locate so magteh l/r primers £80 1000. i this is the going rate i am told as federal 210 <my usual primers > are not available if they were they would be £100 plus per 1000 ! so my question is are mag tech primers any good and are they as hot as the federal 210 l/r primers? ! know i need to work up my loads again but thats all part of shooting.

I bought 5K large and 5K small earlier this year, the LR were about half the price you are paying but times have changed. Anyway, nothing wrong with them, they work fine and I've been getting tight groups. I think £80/100 is cheap for primers at the moment and I don't think you will regret buying them.

Incidentally, did some primer testing with the same load and different primers, CCI was the best, then Remington and Magtech were similar, then Federal and Ginex grouped together, and Fiocchi was far and away the worst. Apart from the Fiocchi, I'd have no problem using any of them.

Magtech are decent.

Surprised about others Fiocci experiences - had some good results.
Every gun/bullet/powder combination is different, I'd probably get different results in a different calibre, (that was 6.5mm). I'm sure they will all work well in some combination!

I know prices have gone up but £80 for Magtech is very expensive. I wouldn't expect to pay more than £50 for them

In Feb before this all blew up it was £45/1000 for LR and £28/1000 for SR, so I'd say £80 is probably about right given the problems. In fact, if the OP were to tell us where, there would probably be a number of people setting off to purchase.....:)
