Making the L1A1 SLR

A fascinating video from the Archives on the Enfield manufacturing of tge SLR. This is long long before the days of CNC Milling, but still amazing levels of production tooling etc. The real craftsmanship was in the tooling, and the maintenance of such tools.

And why do the military always use reverse terms for all the parts - eg Housing Trigger etc

It is because the terminology is designed for catalogueing, and so should be separated by a comma, eg:
- Housing, trigger
- Housing, oil bottle
- Housing, other ranks

We don’t - it’s the rest of you that are weird!🤣🤣🤣

First ‘proper’ rifle I ever used way back as a 16 year old loon. Our rifles in ‘Basic’ were so abused that you had to run the gas reg on 1 in order to cycle the rounds properly but they then kicked you down the firing point!🤣 Great memories.

Interesting watch - thanks for posting 😃👍

Brilliant, thanks for posting this. It’s the sort of engineering processes I recognise from my days spent at college - never followed a career in that sector, I switched over to civil engineering instead. Amazing to think that not only were the rifles & their component parts made using machinery that pre-dated cnc technology by many years, but also that they were designed on a drawing board not on a computer. We won’t mention Elf & safe tea though… I’m sure those guys were using barrier cream but just how effective would it be with exposure to oils & cutting fluids day after day after day 😳
