Hi,

Could anyone please guide me as to where i could get a sleeve for the threads on the barrel as i lost mine. its a 1/2 UNF thread size.

I called Open season and as of last this monday gone they are no longer distributors of Blaser and Mauser. Does anyone know who are the new distributors.

Thanks

Try UK Custom Shop 01905 797060 they do Wildcat mods in 1/2 inch unf . My lad got a belting brand new Mauser action rifle off them on saturday threaded and sleeve provided on request.

I take it that what you have lost is your thread protector? You don't need to go to the importer 30-06 for a replacement any good gunsmith should be able to supply you with a suitable replacement in the thread size of your choice. They have even been advertised on this site and ebay in the past, just use the search facility to find them.

OK, but you'll grant that obtaining a thread protector which matches the diameter, finish and thread length of any given barrel is not so easy, nor necessarily as quick or cheap (though given the price of an 03 scope mount, who knows?) as obtaining an original factory protector from Mauser.

The OP may only be looking for "something" to protect his muzzle thread -in which case I'd agree that "any good gunsmith" (and how many of these are there, really?) could supply one, but personally I'd be looking for a match to the original.

He says that the original was 1/2" UNF, somehow to me that doesn't sound like a thread size that Mauser would use, wouldn't it be a metric size?

That bit surprised me too. But I didn't see why the OP would want to contact Mauser at all if it wasn't a factory protector.

The original M03 leaflet I acquired from Beechwood whom were the original importers makes no mention of threaded muzzles so back then when first introduced any muzzle threads would have been done here in the UK.

Good news regarding the change of distributor when I asked for something a little specialised they couldn't even be bothered to quote for it!!

Dave,

You saying Robert wouldn't quote you for a Mauser part or that he wasn't able to quote you for a part that wasn't a Mauser part?

I read the post as saying "Good news regarding the change of distributor! When I asked Open Season for something a little specialised they couldn't even be bothered to quote for it!", but maybe I got the wrong end of the stick. :-|

When I asked open season they were very helpful indeed and I got the barrel I wanted.

And I'm glad to hear it. It's clear that members on here have received variable levels of service from OS, but I wasn't thinking about that, merely assuming that Blaser sporting Ltd. would have got off on the right foot in this respect in their first 2 weeks of operation, and that the comment was therefore more likely to relate to an earlier period!

No,

I was after a .7 08 Barrel for mine which is not standard but I remember reading one of their catalogues some time back and you could get non standard barrels but there is a premium to pay which I may or may not have been willing to pay once I found out the cost but the answer I got was we don't do that cal. I went back and asked about special order and my email was ignored!

Dave,

sorry, but I still don't know whether you're talking about Open Season or Robert Sajitz (Blaser Sporting).
