MDT ORYX buttstock modification

Hi guys.

I’m looking at purchasing an mdt oryx chassis for my t3x 223. (If anyone has one for sale I’d be interested, please let me know). I have shot one and I really like the oryx chassis but the lack of tool less adjustability in the buttstock is putting me off.

My idea to fix this is to cut and machine the XTN interface into the rear end of the oryx chassis so it would be able to accept one of the SRS style buttstock options. I think this buttstock option along with the mlok side panels would look really good on the oryx and offer a more adjustable configurations to get the gun to fit and balance just right. This would also allow for the SRS-FX folding option too.

Few questions I have are:

Once cut, Is the rear section behind the grip a solid piece of aluminium and would it be possible to machine the recesses into and tap in some thread to accept the xtn interface

Is the profile the same on the srs buttstock as the profile coming from the rear of the oryx. This would keep that oem look. Without having the chassis and buttstock in hand, this is hard to figure out. If someone could provide me with measurements of both, I’d like to work out if they will align seamlessly.

Long shot here, but If the profiles are correct, is there anyone with a milling machine able to carry out this work for me.

Lastly, I know I could just look for another model of chassis to suit my needs but I like the idea of this custom chassis and it being a one of a kind custom job.

Not sure why you would want to go to this extent, once set surely the LOP using the spacers should not really need constant adjustment and if your on about the cheekpiece screws swap them for these then you can adjust at you leisure....

If however the LOP was the issue there are far easier fixes to make that work also...

Like I said it’s mainly for a one of a kind chassis and because I think it would improve the look of the rifle as I’m not a fan of the original buttstock . It would work perfectly fine as is, and will most likely run the original set up for a while. The adjustability would be fantastic to swap between shooters.

Looking about on other forums many people would also like the same adjustability and also the folding stock option is talked about by a few. There is a guy who remade the buttstock completely with 3d printed parts to achieve a similar result, although still doesn’t have the oem look and still wouldn’t have the option to fold

I think the job its self would be rather simple providing you had a milling machine to turn the rear end to the female section of the xtn adapter.
MDT do this on the LSS and ESS platform too so must be able to be done.

I have an Oryx chassis and previously owned a folding Tac A1. The folding aspect is good if you have a need for the rifle to be much shorter, maybe discreet travelling or for genuine tactical purposes.

If you had a milling machine then doing it yourself would be a fun project and probably worthwhile. As you'll need someone else to do it the cost will make it an expensive endeavour. Yes, you will get a one off bespoke chassis but I doubt it'll be better or cheaper than an existing higher model chassis.

I do like the Oryx but it is a cheaper alternative to what MDT offers and as such it is missing quite a few basic components to keep it at the low end of what they make. By the time you improve it you'd have spent more than buying a better designed chassis and tweaking that one.

Instead of milling a customized interface, attach a short picatinny rail vertically to the end of the chassis where the cut was made. If that part of the chassis is hollow, fill it with some epoxy so there is material to bolt the rail into. Then attach to it a picatinny stock.

I also have an Oryx chassis and thought about of doing this myself.
