I downloaded the Merlin bird call app this morning and tried it whilst on the dog walk. It works really well! Differentiated between all sorts of calls - whitethroat, blackcap, sedge warbler, etc.. If bird id interests you then this is a great help.
Thought that was a dating app?Another to try is BirdNET.

If you have an iphone then the phone does this anyway. It’s a very useful app, as is inature for snapping plants/insects/whatever for a quick ID or at the very least narrowing down of the suspects
Regarding plant ID the iPhone has a feature to ‘look up plant’. Swipe up on the photo and the ‘look up’ tab is below the photo. Another handy tool (along with the Merlin bird app) whilst out with the dog or stalking and not seeing any deer!!
According to post #3 the Merlin app is heavy on storage. Do you not find this?Free, accurate and you don’t have to fill your memory up with recordings.
34sec file took 5mb of storage. But once you've ID the bird, easy enough to delete sound file & free up space.According to post #3 the Merlin app is heavy on storage. Do you not find this?
No. I start the ‘listening’ by pressing the microphone button The app flashes up the bird name when it hears and IDs the song, if you press the cross at the top right of the screen it doesn’t save anything. If you press the stop record button it does save it but you can easily delete it. I tend not to save anything unless it’s of real interest. Hope this helpsAccording to post #3 the Merlin app is heavy on storage. Do you not find this?
