Pal has just put in for his SGC with Met Police.

Anyone know rough grant time? I'd heard 6-12 months but google seems to suggest 18 months +

Met police FAO all work of Sidcup Kent .
Know a few folks that had to do a course for there shotgun cert's
So get some mentoring or training in first 👍
some have waited 12 months
Good luck

Really? A course for a SGC? Where's that in the statutory guidance...

I've been taking him out so hopefully that will stand him in good stead although I'm under Essex not MET

A few had to attend biggin hill guns who run a day course.
But they were all brought up around rifles and shotgun's.
Since Plymouth every one as to cover them backsides.
Brad93 put a letter together stating types of rifle some dates and other bits that may help 👍

I know a couple of new applicants for coterminous certificates who have been asked to show evidence of a shotgun course, the firearms part of it was not an issue as they are members of a club.

He wants SGC only for clays so won't need any training on rifles.

Very easy for the police to say go do a course, doesn't make anyone any safer out in the field.

Hey I’m with MET (just about 1 more road down and I would have been with Essex)

They will require you to do the shotgun safety course unless the clay range you shot on can write you a letter saying your are competent.. (my mentor wrote a letter but wasn’t enough they wanted one from a range)

Expect to wait around 7-9 months

If you want to speed things up get that letter ready or if you can’t then do the shotgun course.. have your safe ready so when you do get a call book your home visit there and then

Cheers mate. Ill tell him to book on a course then, absolute madness if you ask me, another hoop to jump through, more red tape and more expense to keep people out of firearms ownership!

Where did you do yours? Is there anywhere this side of the water?

We only shoot at a small local clay shooting club so no chance of getting a letter from there.

Any shotgun safety course will do. I did mine in harlow “mini rifle” was a bit expensive but I waited so long they was the only place that had a opening before my home visit.. (had my home visit 1 week after my phone call from the fire arms officer and managed to squeeze the course in)

Bisley do the course a lot cheaper but much further away

There’s another place I cant remember the name (in Essex too) I’ll ring my mate tomorrow and will pass on the information

Ye it’s another hoop to jump through I did express my concerns to my fire arms officer but he was standing strong on the subject
