I was in the market for a new scope for my .22 but the urgency of replacement arrived sooner than expected when my cheap and not so cheerful Leapers (yes, yes ,yes, it was put on the rifle when God was a boy and I was younger and poorer) scope literally broke in half at the turrets. It owed me nothing so I wasn't too bothered......but I did need a replacement.
So what scope? I did need one urgently so I was playing the cost/quality/delivery equation. Anyway, to cut to the chase, I bought a Minox ZL3 3-9x40 from the sportsman gun centre. I'd bought my son a pair of Minox binos a few years ago so was familiar with the brand and would have happily stolen them from him other than they were a bit heavy for stalking.
I paid £133 for the scope which was quite a saving on the list price.
I was out for a zero and play this morning and oh my, what a lovely scope. The light quality was rubbish this morning but it did really well. It's nothing fancy and not illuminated but just a good solid scope. Perhaps the only negative so far is the elevation and windage clicks could be a little more definite. I zero'd and then shot a box and it ended up back on zero perfectly.
I'm sure the poor old Leapers scope used to cower in the presence of the gathered S&B's in the cabinet but I think this guy should be able to stand a lot taller.
I'm quite hard to please but I do like this scope so if you're looking for a sub £150 scope then I'd seriously take a look at one. I chose the 40mm but they do also have 50mm in the same range at the same price.
