WRT Sambar, when you are a main food source for Bengal tigers, the dumb ones left the gene pool millennia ago.

In descending order of difficulty to hunt I'd rank deer here (NZ) in order Sambar, Rusa, Sika, Whitetail, Red, Fallow. Getting regularly close to big (and big mobs of) Sambar has Mr JG showing himself as a seriously good stalker.

I have to add that I would put the Sika in front of the Rusa and the Whitetail probably also.
Mind you all of the species listed roar/croak/vocalise in rut except Sambar.

Amazing pics. How much meat would you get off a typical carcass?

@Quixote This young stag featured a few years ago on here. He was weighed on a proper scale at 450 lbs complete except for a few drops of forehead claret he shed. I saw him a k away originally and ended up shooting him at 12 yards through the noggin.
