Easily done.I'm going to pull it all apart again and check everything. The more I think about it the more convinced I am that this is what's happened. What a stupid mistake

No sign of anything similar in the replacement gasket set I bought though. Loads of black crap that looks like sealant too. THAT wasn't me, but I must've knocked it loose without noticing when I changed the clutch. Either that, or it's been dislodged during an oil change. Sounds a lot better now, and I suspect it'll be back to having full power again

Absolutely no clue! I only noticed it myself after I'd taken the photo. Quad was bought at auction, and there's obviously been a couple of issues going on that have only recently manifested themselves after I started to refurbish it following the recent issues
Could the spiral be a "lost" helicoil?
Does it have a tab, or signs of, going across the diameter?
Looks like a preformed o ring to me, is it rubber?
